Not sure, might be the angle
The W08 might be the longest car in the history of cars, maybe ever.

Looks like they've gone for a slight thumb nose from that angle. Maybe they'll be able to run in traffic this year?

It's just the shadow.
They won't have a thumb nose.

Underwhelming.

The nose reminds me of the early 2015 McHonda nose.

Not enough rake.

That's it, I've had enough. F1 has finally pushed me away with monstrosities like this. Not the halo, but...that font (shudder)

Aye, Bottas is having his car driven remotely by Lewis this year to help him out a bit.

As boring as expected.
#31

Well, I guess they are pretty confident about their engine power, the rest of the car doesn't even look that much different.
#32
Posted 22 February 2018 - 10:27
This is mindblowing!
The photo suggests a completely new enginedesign.. In fact, if i'm not mistaken, I think the engine is mounted upside down in the new car!
.. or maybe I'm looking too much into it..

Halo looks better here
Actually, I had thought the dark halo's looked not as bad as I thought it would in the studio shots, due to the lighting to try and hide all the funky aero. Here is looks a bit more in your face again
Will have to see what they look like in motion.
Given this image though, the white halo's will look really bad. Unless someone hangs some furry dice, a smelly magic christmas tree or a Tom Tom off it.....

Ironically when people on here say "the car looks fast" actually in this case you can say "the paint job looks fast" .
Nice work by them on that front.
It might just be vizflow of course, my eyes are old

for good I think, othewrwise new crash test are required, and no one does that

Quite evolved around the sidepods/bargeboard area.
These cars are all largely soft evolutions though so nothing big to see
#49
Posted 22 February 2018 - 10:57
weren't the bargeboards suppose to be smaller this season? due to new regulations
#50
Posted 22 February 2018 - 10:59
Hard to tell if the wheelbase is much shorter, if any at all. I wasn't expecting them to shorten it personally. That would mean a pretty massive redesign of the entire aero philosophy. Makes sense to stick with a design that worked pretty damn well over the course of an entire season even if it meant having a few weekends where Ferrari were quicker, and just evolve the W08. I like to think they'll have made the necessary changes to iron out most of the issues they weren't able to with in season development last year.
Mercedes haven't really dropped the ball massively since the the hybrid era began. The only real weakness being the car suffered following in dirty air more than the Ferrari and Red Bull so as long they can continue to fight for the front row in qualifying, why change a winning design?
Unless one of the top three teams have a silver bullet up their sleeve there's every reason to think it could be an even closer season than last year, hopefully with McLaren starting to knock on the door too.
Looks like your standard oversized and underdeveloped pre season barge boards for launch until proper bits start to get bolted on during testing.
