This looks good fun. Does anybody know more about it? It seems well organised, the pole-sitter makes a terrific start, and Tony Rolt presents the prizes.

The Pathé record show an issue date of 31/10/1955 and I was trying to identify both the meeting and any of the parents/mechanics/team managers. The racers are, apparently, six to eight years old and mention is made of Christine Cooper and Eddie French.

At least they all started close together, unlike the farce at Goodwood where they line them up in Le Mans fashion and some poor kids have twice as far to pedal as those near the head of the line. It always seems very unfair to me.

At Goodwood they reverse the starting order between the two races (one each day) and the result is determined from the aggregate.  All rather unnecessary, but I suppose the powers that be feel the Le Mans start adds to the show.
But it appears that nobody has told the commentary team who are happy to get "cute" interviews.

It looks like a one make formula. They must be early Dallaras!  Except for that straggler at the back in the rather nice....Connaught?

It's an Austin J40, built by disabled Welsh miners. They come up for sale fairly regularly, but at increasingly silly prices. You can pay anywhere between £900 and £3000 for one ... https://www.antiques...ds-at-auctions/

There's even an owners club: http://www.austinwor...m/pedalcar.html

One of my friends at school had one. I was extremely jealous!

This was held at the September 17, 1955 Silverstone meeting.

Charles Cooper to be seen making sure his granddaughter has a competitive car around 32sec mark.

Thank you Stephen. September 17th, BRSCC; I've now found the meeting report in the October Motor Sport.

I hadn't noticed Charles C there at the sharp end. Well spotted.

the  man directing the 'racers' looks like Bert Lampkin of BRSCC Brands Hatch fame.

That was The Commander Yorke Trophy meeting where Tony Rolt's Connaught  finished 2nd in the Formula Libre race to  Gerard's  Cooper-Bristol. I remember it well but must have still been cycling en-route when the pedal cars were on. I'm only posting this to show that  'The Beast From The East' raging  outside hasn't affected my old memory!.

Damn, why didn't I take part? Think my entry form must have been 'lost in the post', certainly don't remember hearing about it at the time.

Might mention that my J40. though originally blue, was soon resprayed in British Racing Green. Well you would, wouldn't you?
