Actor Sylvester Stallone originally planned to base his movie "Driven" on the Formula One scene, but after several visits to the paddock, opted against it and elected the Champcar series instead.

This story was found on autorace.com, and is of course a load of crap as we all know....

There is NO SCRIPT!!! Or perhaps a good idea failed to be translated onto the screen. In the end, my opinion of the movie is VERY poor. Wacthing it was like viewing a bad X-rated movie where there: the plot is predictable, the dialogue is minimal and terrible and every 10 seconds there is a shot of a race car or a horrific crash.
Here is an example of how the movie is throughout the whole hour:
Actor A: " my car is yellow"
Actor B " my car is red"
A: " let's go race!"
Sequence of bad racing shots and grundge for 10 minutes.
Actor A: " I hate you"
Actor B: " I hate you, too"
Actor A : " let's go race!"
Sequence of bad racing shots and grundge music for 10 minutes.
Thank God, F1 and Bernie didn't get involved with this movie. It would have done more damage than good to F1, had F1 been involved in the movie.

http://www.rottentom.../movie-1107198/
This particular page contains some of the choicer quotes from various US-based newspapers and magazines about this God-awful movie. It's worth reading because the quotes are quite funny. Last years worst movie of all time was BattleField Earth starring John Travolta. Going by the comments on RottenTomatoes, 2001's biggest stinker could easily be Stallone's Driven.
Which brings us neatly to the source of this story on Autorace.com. I can only presume the site's close connection with Jordan means Sly and Eddie J. are close buddies, hence the movie's little "booster" on the Autorace site.
For me, I'll be vary wary in future of believing any news that's posted on that particular site.

"Sylvester Stallone's homoerotic car-racing actioner delivers something between Speed Racer and gay porn."
Gee, maybe i won't see this film after all. No plot, cardboard characters, inane action scenes I expected, but 'gay porn'

Driven made just over $12m. Next weekend (the start of the summer blockbuster season) will see The Mummy Returns opening to atleast 50m.

13.2 million but they probably spent that much in advertising in the last two weeks. I can't remember a movie with as much hype on tv as Driven. That much advertising and blatant hype is almost always a bad sign. Oh, and tv stands for television

IMHO the film was a disgrace.

Nice shots of JPM and even a cameo by Jean Alesi and it still sucked.

in the script synopsis is that the outlines of "Driven" and
"Rocky IV" are almost identical (aging champion comes out
of retirement to show a young, talented blond hothead how
to be a champion) . If Stallone was going to rip himself off,
the only worse place to start would be "Rocky V" or
"Rhinestone" (where Stallone plays a singing cowboy
.....a musical about CART, now that would
be entertaining

Episodes of Speedracer would be a better depiction of auto racing than this f$%^&* piece of crap...
The special effects and racing segments didn't even begin to make up for the lack of plot and absence of acting...
HUGELY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

I agree that the very least the special effects could have been better, unfortunately, no satisfaction was obtained there either.

We have to admit. Americans know how to do the things better than europeans.
Mauricio Gugelmin, due the film, will be more known in the world than Mika Hakkinen (maybe M.Schu), since the europeans doesn't care to preserve F-1 idols.
