Always enjoy the VLN, and great to see it return; a Manthey win, so all is good. Motorsport doesn't have to be boring and a soap opera.....(yes F1 I'm looking at you)

No wonder it did! At the 9:19 mark it can be seen with a left rear puncture on the approach to Adenauer Forst.

Thanks for doing these. Watching sports cars navigate the Ring is hypnotic, like tennis or something.

It is. Especially when you pick an onboard feed and follow it for a while – going round the track, lap after lap – then you tend to get into the same sort of rhythm as when you watch a tennis player bounce, bounce, bounce the ball on the baseline and know they're only inches away from a net service.

This series is a joy to have discovered

I hope the next event at the Ring is also covered as I understood it is a 6 hr pre 24 hour race.

I never thought I would say this but there is too much motor racing going on to follow everything today: VLN is the main focus though

Apparently Liberty Media is (still) considering to move the German F1 GP to the Nordschleife

Can't see it ever happening, the track is too dangerous for F1

I know what you are saying, but what actually would the issues be?

There are not many run-off areas, but street circuits such as Monaco and Singapore have almost no run-off areas, just hard barriers.

Perhaps the problem would be the narrowness of the track? It's hard to overtake there. I can imagine an F1 race at the 'Ring being even more processional than typical F1 races at other circuits (at least if it's dry ;) ).

Narrowness, enormous length of the track making it a logistical nightmare (how do you guarantee marshals in every corner, escape roads for quick extraction of drivers etc), *quick* corners next to barriers which is something you don't have in Singapore and which in Monaco the only corners you have are at inoffensive angles and/or under acceleration in which serious crashes are less likely than in corners which you have to suddenly decelerate; and perhaps the biggest problem of all to me is the combination of all the above with massive elevation changes, it doesn't take much for a car to fly off into the trees.

There's been huge crashes with GT3 cars in the Ring with people wondering if the GT3s are now too fast for the track, now go compare GT3s to F1s....

I used to race in VLN. There were marshals at every corner. Every running inch of the track was under scrutiny, as otherwise there was no way of a marshal spotting an off and warning oncoming drivers.

That is an interesting point you make about the trees. They would severely limit the ability of a helicopter to land and take off in the event of the urgent need to get a driver to hospital.

I do find it ironic, however, that the FIA seem to think it's okay for roughly 300 drivers to risk their lives racing there 66 hours/season, plus quali and practice, but it wouldn't be okay for 20 drivers to do the same for an hour-and-a-half.   ;)

Enjoyed the race/ Highlight for me was the in-car shot of a quick car charging through the pack after yellow flags - not even referenced on the commentary.

And liked the new Aston - 4th overall on its debut
