I hear that the big-twin JAP-engined absolute number one Brabham speedway car is winging its way from Sydney to London. It is to be on display at Australia House on May 2 when 'Project Brabham' will be launched. What's this, you ask?  I gather it's a venture David Brabham, Jack's youngest son, is launching to restore the Brabham name to Formula 1 (maybe?) and other classes of motor sport. If you look at the 'exhaust pipes' on the car next to Jack and Francois you'll notice that they are very unfamiliar...

This seems to me to be one of the mock-up cars for the movie, Grand Prix.

That JAP midget spent a large amount of time here in SA as the Len Golding SA3 midget. It was run as a historic until fairly recently. Owned from memory by Noel Bisset who died in recent years.

Looking at that Kilburn programme I know/ know of many of those names through my father in both the bikes and the Speedcar entry.

Laurie Jamieson who raced bikes, TQs and midgets. As well as scrambles.

Harry Denton killed at Rowley Pk on a solo after many years with outfits. Uncle to Peter Denton who won one version of the Supermodified Championship in 1970.

Charlie 'Chook' Mc Connell, father of Kym McConnell also an outfit competitor in the 70s.

Goerge Robertson, another sidecar competitor as well as trials and scrambles. I had many dealings with his son who worked at Maxwill Motors for quite  a while. I tried to lease a caryard from him about 20 years ago. The family had quite a few property holdings.

Jack Prime, another sidecar competitor until  the mid 60s.

Sam Bright who raced until the 60s and had a workshop for decades near me. His son Mike raced Karts for a long while.

Roy Sands an airline pilot as well as Motel owner at Glenelg. Raced well into the 60s

Ray Huppatz

Harry Neale, a very well credentialed midget competitor killed at Claremont WA in 1959.

Jack Larrit who too raced into the 60s.

I think that Brabham behind Jack and Francois is Ken Costello’s F3 car, self-modified as mentioned in That Thread on the film.

Contrary to the previous information I had, I now understand the Brabham-JAP with other illustrious not to say nostalgic BT cars and the new BT62 will be on display in central London on 3-4 May.  Admission is only by FREE ticket available from www.brabhamautomotive.com/exhibition.

 

David Brabham has written as follows:

 

With performance characteristics that point to the potency of the car, the new Brabham is pure-bred for the track and capable of setting blistering lap times, designed and engineered to demand more from the driver and reward the limited few who will rise to its challenge. The BT62 boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 730ps per tonne, a dry weight of just 972kg and is powered by a Brabham naturally-aspirated 5.4 litre capacity V8 engine.

 

With its performance-optimised body and aggressive aerodynamic package, the Brabham BT62 delivers over 1200kg of downforce. Saving additional weight and with additive performance, the BT62's brakes are carbon/carbon - a current Formula 1 technology that was first introduced to the sport by Brabham in 1976 - featuring six pistons front and rear.

Celebrating seventy years since Sir Jack Brabham launched his racing career in Australia in 1948, production of the Brabham BT62 will be limited to just seventy cars. With a price of £1m plus local taxes, and before options, orders are being taken now, and first deliveries are expected later this year. Owners of the BT62 will join a Brabham driver development programme which will enable them to fully exploit the performance of the vehicle on the track.

 

The all-new Brabham BT62 will be on show at a prestigious central London location on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 May, amidst a breath-taking assembly of historic Brabham racing cars and memorabilia.
