Hi,

 

You have a policy of making people sign in once a week. Like many others I view the site through a desktop at home and work, a laptop, an ipad (app) and phone (android app) and sometimes more than one browser on the PCs.

 

So most of the time I arrive at your site on any device I'm not signed in.

 

I don't understand why even on an app you'd sign someone out, and of course you get to present me with ads when I'm not a subscriber.

 

So I might just go that way. Because the result is that there's not much point in paying a subscription. (Plus is ok, but not why I pay.) I pay it to support you as I did AtlasF1 originally. But if you force me to view the content as if i'm not subscribed, I'll stop subscribing - the view isn't much different.

It's definitely not an intentional policy to log you out - the site is supposed to drop a cookie on your device and to keep you logged in permanently!

 

Our developers made some changes to the site last year which we hoped would fix all of this, but your experience and the other reports we're getting on this show that it's still broken in parts.

 

It looks like we've got to get back to the drawing board on this one. Sorry that it's still not working properly...

All of the cookies you set prefixed with US_ (ID, Name, Password, Session, Lock) are set to 1 week and have been for some time.

I presume the same underlying system is used in your Android and Apple apps.

Are you trying to access "Classic Autosport" or the new site. I access Autosport on a number of different platforms always electing to use "Classic" because I prefer it. I get logged out of "Classic" every day and the log in has to be carried out on every machine that I use. I never get logged out of the new site.

The login specific cookies should last pretty much forever rather than for a single week. That's something we made sure of last year, but it sounds like that's not always working properly. I'm going to ask our developers to investigate. One of our editors has a phone which keeps logging him out if he goes more than a day or so without visiting Autosport, so we're going to use the dubuggers to see what his phone is doing which mine isn't!

 

And you're right in saying that the underlying system is the same for the mobile apps - though the cookies aren't shared across the app and your browser.

Sorry to say that we're only going to try to fix this for the main site rather than Classic - but since the two sites share cookies any fix on the main site may have the side effect of helping with the classic site... Until we finally have to switch it off!

I accept that totally Grayson, my choice so have to live with it. I doubt that I'm alone though. Let's just hope that you forget to switch it off.

Any update on this? It's consistent and reproducible for me across multiple devices / OS etc.

In short it never keeps me logged in longer than a week on any platform.

Is it possible it's related in some way to the account? Mine is well over a decade old.

I'm cancelling my subscription, which ends in a week. After a couple of decades from when it was Atlas F1.

 

Autosport is either incapable or unwilling to fix the problem. I'm tired of being treated like I'm not a subscriber by logging into to every device app and browser every week.  USD50 a year for that 'privilege'?

 

And now at least I won't have to do that. I'll get it for free because every device counts as a separate view. You're your own worst enemy, making life harder for a subscriber.
