Are the graphics just a clever way for lulling us to forget the horrible halo, similar to the fake engine sounds or do you think they make the show better?

Personally it is a bit ambivalent. I love the old style, but the new style is clever considering the bib of the new cars. To me, it seems that they are trying to hide the halo with the graphics, not for the good of it.

I also prefer the old style because is was easier to see (contrast, sharpness and colour) as well as having all the info grouped in a small area, so no large eye movements necessary.

They are terrible, and make the halo even worse as they now obscure the screen even further (I particulary dislike not being able to see the front wishbones anymore)

However with a slight tweak to keep them within the bounds of the halo they could only be seen as an improvement

I like the new graphics, to be honest, at least they are using the Halo area for something useful. The fact they are willing to experiment with the TV graphics is a good sign, I'm not a fan of some of the changes (that font) but the old stuff was woefully out of date. Also, F1 is complicated for the average punter, anything that can make it easier is a good thing.

It wouldn't surprise me if the F1 On Demand app gives the viewer choice on the what is displayed on the screen.

Also I can't imagine it's going to be too long until the drivers have a similar HUD!

They're ok.

If the halo needs to be there, I'm all for using that space for something worthwhile.

By having bright flashing lights on it? I'm not sure that's a great plan. :p

I generally prefer fewer than more things on screen, but even if that's not feasible - they do after all have to appeal to many people - I just don't get what they're hoping to achieve here.

Thirty giant bars on the screen to show how much someone is braking? Really? Who is going to be able to tell? What's the point? Why are those bars there? So someone can say "Oh my goodness, did you see Hamilton braked three bars for Copse but Ricciardo braked five bars?!" Not likely. It's just clutter. And as that picture of Gasly shows it's even worse than that: it's graphics on top of graphics... :well:

Still, experimentation is good. No reason to stick with something 'just because'.

Bah, wish they would just mount the camera inside the halo, and have a graphic of the steeringwheel movement on the bottom of the screen, along with speed/gear and g-force.

I think it's just a way of using dead space, nothing new being shown and I'd rather they sorted out the timing screens before messing around with stuff like this.

I'm fine with the graphics so long as they (a) keep them within the bounds of the halo itself rather than extending beyond the halo and blocking some of our view of the car and track as Balmy mentioned, and (b) the improve the throttle and brake graphics to better reflect actual input levels if possible.

The new graphics how the evil looking Halo and look quite smart.

I agree that is should be kept within the boundaries of the Halo.

They take up even more screen than halo, so it's even worse in my opinion. I hate halo and no amount of changes to graphics will change my mind.

They do not block the view of the drivers hands which is the most important thing for an on board

Surely a better use for the halos would be to display the drivers' name.

In most cases, we haven't got a clue as to who is driving the car in shot.

I think it's great that I can see the cornering speed without taking my eyes off the road.
Brake/throttle is sometimes of interest. RPM not so much.

Only ever change things if you're offering an improvement. Develop, don't just replace.

Really whats the big deal?  Halo didnt come about because Liberty needed a new place to put graphics, and what better place to put such graphics really?  Its more centered on the screen now and its on something we don't want to look at anyways.

I think the halo gfx are a superb addition to otherwise precious screen space.

The whole thing just makes me feel terribly old and out of touch with this modern F1.

If by some miracle we do get some on track overtaking that is worth watching from the poorly positioned camera why should I care what gear the car is in at the time, can't I just enjoy watching it without things flashing on the screen?

This is just another example of giving us more information about their increasingly inferior product to distract us rather than improving the product itself.

Could perhaps drill holes down thru it and use it as an ice cream rack......think Kimi would approve......

If they invested time and effort developing these graphics to cover the halo, I would suggest the time could have been better spent stream-editing the video feed to remove the halo completely.

Information is bad?

It must be the engineer in me that I like as much data as I can get my hands on.

Yes, we were told not to discuss the halo and how we don't like it. The world knows.

I don't like anything about it, and the graphics make watching F1 for me worse, I'm not complaining about the halo, but the TV coverage and just that they don't need to add anything else to it, but I guess you can't not mention the halo while discussing the halo and anything negative would imply you don't like, therefore repeating yourself. It's tough.

I won't comment but my guess is that any thread with halo in the name, will be discussing additions to the halo, whether graphics or winglets or what, but it will be tough not to imply you don't like the halo if you think the additions are not necessary or make an ugly thing uglier.

There's already a discussion FOM coverage that covers all that

Not at all.. The gist of what I interpreted was that it's all fluff and no racing. Like modern life. I equate what's happening as a metaphor of the 'selfie'. ... Call me nuts ... but there ya go.

If they can’t improve the transmission delay of the onboard video then the halo graphics should be delayed so it syncs up.

I think they're starting on the easy stuff first, the hard stuff comes later (2021). Or that's what I hope and this isn't just re arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic....

I think it's a good idea, however I don't like that the speed indicator is outside of the halo. I also don't see anypoint in the braking graphic taking as much space - it would make sense if the full telemetry from the brake pedal was available, but it just works on on/off basis. I'd just a place a red tiny square next to the throttle graphics, put the speed inidcator in the middle of the halo and move the gear info towards the right, there's also no need for this much of dead space between the selected gear and the ones next to it (if there's a need for non-currently-selected ones to be there at all, I assume everybody watching knows the numbers order). One minute paint job, but very roughly kinda sorta like this:

Would be great considering the circumstances. Unfortunantly the halo is now an advertisement slot so you can't cover it with graphics.

The best graphic would be the one that removes the halo.
