Mclaren Cars will be put together at Woking, but the nearest oval, Rockingham has decided to shut its doors.

There's an oval at Aldershot, which is far nearer to Woking than Corby.

Not that either is relevant to Mclaren's Indy aspirations.

I'm starting a petition to get IndyCar to Aldershot in 2020. Not often I get a hometown reference in an IndyCar thread.

Judging by everything I can find about it on the web, it closed down over 25 years ago, so maybe it's more relevant to their Indy aspirations than I first realised. :p

Ah, that was the old Aldershot Raceway at Tongham. They bulldozed that to build the dual-carraigeway. They built another on the Army land.

This is not a loaded question, but what are NTT Data getting out of this? Who are they trying to reach? What commercial opportunities are they chasing? I ask because they 1) don't sell directly to consumers and 2) as an IT services company, they don't have much to do with the automotive sector specifically.

Perhaps it's similar to the insurance brokers AJ Gallagher (also seen on the side of Max Chilton) taking title sponsorship of Premiership Rugby in England.

I guess they just want to raise awareness in the North American market, which they seem to be involved in by having bought up Dell IT Services.  At least they seem to have a pretty good presence in the US, so it's not too strange a thing, like... let's say... BinderHolz!   ;)

I guess they can do some work at Millbrook or MIRA proving grounds

In Football Manager, I used to take Aldershot Town FC from the lowest ranks of whatever godforsaken level of English football it inhabits all the way to the top of the Premier League.

And this was back in the days before Bournemouth did it for real.

Announcement was TV schedule in the US and how many races will be on the main NBC channels. Sigh. Still no word on whether they'll be pushing any kind of streaming service for the international audience.

One hopes UK wise it stays with BT Sport (or any FTA option but I know this is unlikely) given what a great job they've done with it.

Promotion and relegation would make a lot of other sports more interesting. I used to try and do that **** in FIFA games, which until 2010 or so were basically good mix CDs with a garbage game attached, the opposite of PES/Winning Eleven, which had great gameplay and some of the most offensive electronic music ever produced. I got Norwich to the premiership in 2 years, then bolted for Sunderland because I liked their kit :D.

So if I put money on Aldershot, how much would I have made compared to Leicester City? :p

Ah! Aldershot! With a random Swede and Norwegian some years ago.

Not to mention Jon Ashwood back in the CM 01/02 days - it seems like he is a quite social media active PT these days. If I'm not very mistaken, Aldershot is back in non-league football now, top tier of National League, but they were knocking on the door up to League one at the start of the decade.

With that being said. IndyCar in Aldershot would be way more IndyCar than we could ever hope for? Unless some rich person with way more money than sense pays for it :smoking:

Wehrlein says there is a third project in progress (beside Formula E with Mahindra and Formula 1 with Ferrari). So the idea of 4 races with Schmidt Peterson are still alive.

Look, I know this is like the longest off season evahhh, so let's get this back on track, figuratively and literally. For the delectation of this forum's... connoisseurs, I have sourced an Indy 500 themed porno movie, circa 1971/72 (featuring footage from 1970, I believe), by the name of "Supercharger." Enjoy!

How weird that it ends right there, of all places, but that's what happens. I swear. cough cough.

About bloody time. I get that the new ones had their issues, but they didn't even go back to the older ones which worked fine.

My understanding is that the old ones had issues with chassis harmonics which were destroying their circuitry. From the attached (above) Racer article:

"IndyCar used its most recent LED panels, made by SPAA05, during the early rounds of the 2018 season, but was forced to pull them from the cars after normal chassis harmonics encountered at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway caused the circuitry in the devices to crack or fail altogether. With no immediate fix available for those units, the series sought a new solution with the unnamed vendor that solves the harmonics issues and expands the range of information that can be displayed for fans and safety workers."

Not settled, yet.

“We’ll turn up to the official test with the No. 9 on there,” Dixon said of INDYCAR Spring Training set for Feb. 12-13 at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

“We ran it into 2004, and then we’ve never done it since. I think some people will get a little bit of a laugh out of it. I like (No.) 9, but to be honest, it’s Chip’s decision.”

Never scored a single goal for Villa. What a waste of money he was. Afterwards I remember him playing in Belgium for Brugge or Genk. Scoring in like every match he played.

That's referring to the the 2018 "new" ones that they stopped running because of the vibration issues. When I said the old ones I meant the ones used from 2015 to 2017 with no issues, the twin 7-segment display ones.

Perhaps it's just for marketing and the PNC Bank photoshoot?

Might be easier for people to associate being a champion with carrying number one?

I believe much was made in 1995 when Al Unser, Jr chose to run the "cursed" #1 sticker after his dominant championship in '94. The events that May must've been major superstition fuel.

But that's the fun and drama of running the #1, isn't it? It's a big target (no pun intended) on your back for everyone to aim at while you're performing your Icarus act.

I’d be really surprised if it stayed given the reasons they won’t run it.

During Tony Renna's accident in testing in 2003, he was running the 1. The material on that page isn't sourced, but according to Steve Gough (former Ganassi/McLaren mechanic with JPM, Berger, and Senna) Ganassi won't run it because of what happened to Renna.

The whole story is here. 2004 may have been the nail in the coffin, but apparently it’s mainly because of what happened to Renna.

Dixon is #9 and #9 is Dixon. Stepping away from it would be unwise. There is a reason why Multiple champions keep their own numbers. I believe only Pagenaud has kept the #1 lately or am I wrong?

They couldn't go back to the earlier one, per this July 2018 Racer article:

https://racer.com/20...return-delayed/

"The possibility of reverting to the previous SPAA05 display panels used from 2015-2017 has been suggested, but those units were designed to fit the bigger roll hoop fairings found on the defunct Chevy and Honda aero kits. With smaller roll hoop fairings created for its 2018 universal aero kit, the new panels were reduced in size to fit a smaller footprint."

The vibrations are an issue with a sole panel bolted upon the car. What if the LED panel was an integral and structural part of the car. As the rear wing endplates are? Let Dallara build a wing endplate with the LED function integrated in it. Thus p[reventing having the panel to be bolted on the car itself.

What about Indy and other speedways? the endplate is minimal in size, for one thing. Cost another. People can also learn how to watch a race and memorize car numbers and look at scoreboards...

Rear wings are going to have a different and potentially harsher vibration environment. Additionally, they may be more vulnerable to debris.
