On O'Ward, I'm not panicking until Robin or Marshall confirm.

It would be a travesty if Pato does not get a drive. C'mon Steinbrenner, pony up! (like max said!)

Gotta love how when you go to the Indycar homepage, they have the current driver points standings in alphabetical order, so it looks like Alonso, Fernando is leading the points race, ahead of Andretti, Marco and Bourdais, Sebastian.

I see what they did there. :-D

Anyhoo, I'm getting GOOOOOOOOOOLD

I'm not.  Same day delayed races are WORTHLESS to me.  This is a big letdown, I was counting on getting this to watch all the races LIVE, but now it's useless.  But as I have thankfully been told, Sling Blue will be another option... or so I hope.  I'll believe it when I watch it!   ;)

That's what I have, Sling Blue. To be fair, I don't think live races were ever in play for the Gold package. They still need you to watch NBCSN, NBC, CNBC, etc for the advertiser revenue. Sling Blue is fine, but it is a little idiosyncratic, especially when you have to juggle between NBCSN and CNBC for recording purposes (note also that Sling Blue costs $5 extra for DVR functions).

What they haven't announced yet is this... what if there's a NASCAR overrun? Will they start the race on the GOLD package? Then shut down the feed when NBCSN is live? That would make a lot of sense, and drive people to buy their product.  I have a feeling once the season starts, that's what they are going to do.

Where I *am* disappointed in the package is there's no word on in-car video during the races. As much as we all hated Always Bad Coverage, I used to love going to espn3.com during the Indy 500 and following someone in car for the entire race (did that for Barrichello, and later for Montoya, IIRC).

Indycar Gold pass $50 for those who sign up now, and $55 after.

Not for us Europeans, so still no news about either how we would watch practice etc / our UK TV deal in general.

https://t.co/liGWyBTQtQ?amp=1

If I am reading this correctly, in the US, practice and qualifying will not be broadcast and the only way I can see those is through Gold? Argh. Qualifying is an aspect of Indycar I always look forward to.

From the press release on the NBC Sports website:

"All qualifying and practice sessions will be streamed live on “INDYCAR Pass”, many on an exclusive basis. Some practice and qualifying sessions will be available on television either live or on delay. NBC Sports Gold will also feature INDYCAR archival and library content, and other motorsports shoulder programming."

https://motorsports....bc-sports-gold/

It wouldn't surprise me if most qualifying was on TV as in years past, as NBCSN has some hours to fill, but who knows?

Although if St. Pete is any indication, maybe only the race is televised.  Sigh.

I suppose that O'Ward has the scholarship money from his Lights title, so he should be there for around three races at least.

Excellent point!!  So if Steinbrenner can't even cover the rest of the races for him, then I really see no point in his involvement at all.  I presume Herta is paid for and good to go otherwise.

Steinbrenner/Schteinbrenner.  Without the money, what are they?

It looks like to get anything other than the races this season you'll need NBCSN Gold (or whatever they call it...)  They haven't posted a price yet but Supercross is US$80/year.

Derek is a good dad if some of that goes toward finding Conor a ride. I on the other hand would probably use it to subscribe to 500,000 years of Indycar on NBC Sports Gold.

I know, I’m a Luddite ... The good news is the free I-Pad I got from the USWNT will do the trick though.
Just need to know if it’s possible to port to a real TV from the dongle I just bought.

I thought that indy car was streaming the test session?? To me the NBC thing seems pretty good for a year, unfortunately it's not available here in the UK. I assume at some point in the next 4 weeks they'll bother to announce a TV deal for the UK

I have no idea if the browser on my TV is considered modern enough for Gold compatibility. I’m good on the mobile side.

Looks like they posted that in the last day or two.  I looked last weekend when watching Supercross and they had nothing posted.  I like SX but not at $80/year when I usually watch just the races that will be on TV.   I suppose it's time to sign up.

EDIT:  Opps, here's the link.  https://www.nbcsports.com/gold/indycar  US only.

Windows 10 will work.  It's browser dependent and it works with Edge or the current versions of Chrome or Firefox.  The specs are poorly worded.  I mean 128MB of RAM?  You can't boot Windows with that.  Doesn't look like someone proofed that very well.

It depends on if the content protection lets the iOS device use a video export method.  There have been things I can't Airplay or output to another video method.  Most other stuff it hasn't been an issue.  NBCSN will let me use Airplay and external devices but I'm not playing any Gold content yet.

I guess you could try it with the 68 channels of Ice Skating they have up. That’s IF you get the regular GOLD along with your $50.

About right, considering his lack of IndyCar experience.

Sheesh. A collision at high speed between him and Simon Pagenaud's Menards car might possibly produce a Higgs boson.

You only get the sport you signed up for in Gold.  You're going to have to sign up for the skating in addition to the IndyCar.

Here's a Racer article on Harding/Steinbrenner from a few days ago.

It's a shame they haven't gotten things sorted out yet.

In other news, rumours that ex-Conquest owner Éric Bachelart is looking to run the 500 with our favourite Spaniard.

Just took a look at the Verizon Indycar app. I don't get why they haven't changed the logo yet, or removed it from the app store. The app just provides a  link to the indycar website, but they should have used half an hour extra and removed the Verizon name and logos.

Ah, Piper, Piper, Piper, getting someone to care after the thrill is gone is the source of so many sad songs, Lifetime channel movies, and bad pulp novels that you reaaalllllly can't expect App Store maintenance to be at the top of anybody's list.  It's the way of the world.

You think that, then next thing you know O'Ward's got a half season sponsorship from the Bronx's leading calzone vendor. Stay tuned.
