Cockpit protection in Indycar this season: a 3-inch tall piece of titanium on the chassis in front of the driver's eyeline designed to deflect debris headed towards the helmet. Aeroscreen apparently underwent some more strength testing and still needs work before being a full solution.

Here's a "hmm" for us all -- Michael Andretti said at COTA he offered Pato an 8-race deal and got turned down because said Pato wants a full season and may have something in the works. Reported by Bruce Martin at Autoweek.com.

If the deal is off the table, as Michael seems to indicate, and Pato can't discuss it because it falls under his NDA, it can only mean that this "deal" was basically have Harding pay for the 8 races with the scholarship plus something else, and Pato didn't trust the something else part was there.

So basically it's the halo front support without the "halo" itself.

Pretty much. They do mention that the current chassis cannot be modified to accept a full halo-style structure.

It's fascinating to me how minimal that piece is. Only 3 inches tall.

I would love to see the matrix of tests they performed that drove the solution.

Katie Hargitt on Marshall Pruett's IndyCar podcast last week was trying to start a movement for "Frozen."   :drunk:

At least he got some dedicated fans...

They just mentioned in the f1 testing that Robert Wickens has posted a video of himself standing up unassisted to surprise his fiancee.

Brilliant. Can't wait to see him back in the #6 whenever he's ready.

Ok gang... don’t be suckered in when Autosport launch ‘PitStop Betting’ for Indycar. ... Remember: We have our own fantasy league and don’t need Autosport to screw up our whole deal.

Fantasy started in March last year. I’m checking daily to make sure we get in early.

Is AutoNation still an Andretti Autosport sponsor or did Zak Brown poach them? AFAIK, they were with Meyer-Shank as well.

Still on the Andretti and Meyer-Shank cars as of the COTA test.

I know B Squared might like that.

Those rear wings (and better tires) accounted for a 25 mph increase in lap speed in three years (from Al Unser, Sr.'s Pole in 170.221 in 1970 to his brother Bobby's in 195.940 in 1972)...

Graham is spot on here. It's very easy to be complacent when the series seems to be in rude health; it's important that the management broadens their horizons to try and pick up first-time viewers. The racing is good enough to make them stick around; the challenge is getting them watching in the first place.

Jay Frye is the best thing to happen to Indycar's back office since before I've been following the category

This is the first time they've ever had professionals running the sport- whether it be IRL, CART or USAC. Hope they picked up the various comments about TV coverage as well

Is the number 66 on Alonso's car because of 1966 and the year the worlds only tripple crown winner Graham Hill won 500. A race win that Alonso needs to achieve triple crown

Of corse, Andretti won tripple crown too by winning Indy500, Daytona 500 and WDC

Also AJ Foyt did it too by winning Indy500, Daytona 500 and Le Mans 24hrs

Yes it is because of 1966, when Mclaren made theirGP debut.  I think.

So it has nothing to do with Hill and Alonso's chase after Hill's record

They could reach a deal with AJ to sell them #14 for Alonso

Just like Newman Haas reached a deal with Walker for number 5 when Mansell came in

But they didnt.

So I presume their Indy500 endeavours are more about Mclaren than about Alonso

Such a shame.

Of course it's more about McLaren, their intention is to do this for more years than Alonso will be around driving.

Also, there is no way Foyt would release the number 14.

Would be ridiculous for Foyt to release/give away his "life long" number to someone only using it since 2014 and having previously run under #29 in the Indy 500.
