Here we go, practice kicks off tonight at 6.45 with newcomers practice. Sadly this year we'll be minus three of TT's greatest stars in John McGuinness, still recovering from injuries sustained at the 2017NW200, Bruce Anstey, currently undergoing chemotherapy and Guy Martin who has retired.

The circuit, 37and 3/4 miles

mountaincourse1990_Present_gif.gif

Current lap record Michael Dunlop, 133.962mph (215.951 kph) 16.53.929 minutes riding a BMW S1000 RR.
Michael's 2nd fastest lap,

OK everyone the greatest show on earth's fantastic live timing should go LIVE this afternoon, just sign in and you're off. There are links there where you can follow your favourite rider, interactive maps, photos, YouTube, Downloads, The TT shop, Twitter and the brilliant Radio TT, beware though, you have to become  an outright rocker for two weeks to enjoy the experience fully. Get down by the Bushy's tent if you get the lust after a few days and watch topless guys and gals doing strange things on motorbikes, get into Sam Webb's in the evening and watch live bands with a fairly good chance of seeing one of the local police inspectors giving it loads on stage in uniform. Not to be missed.

If you want to keep up minute by minute, the first-class Radio TT will broadcast excellent full commentary live and keep you musically entertained. Great station. Just be sure to click on the AM link not FM, that's where all the fuddy duddies hang out, you'll find nothing there that even indicates that it's TT, starts today for this evenings practice and fully live from Monday at 7.30 am until conclusion of TT '18.

Here, you can find the excellent IOMTT where all the news, results, starting lists, and a fantastic TT database etc. can be found.

If, unlike me, you're capable of restraining yourself in your posting manner, you have to be very, very good, there's a TT forum here. The old one unfortunately got closed down 'cos all the glasses got smashed when the joint was wrecked one night. ;)  And for the first time!!!  Autosport TT

I didn't know about Bruce Anstey. That's such a shame, all the best to him and his family.

True that. These guys are insane to ride there. This race feels like going back by at least 50 years with a time machine, lol. :p

You can view this mornings TT chat show on Manx Radio Youtube Channel, always worth a listen but you can also now watch. Alternatively, just switch on and listen to continual TT chatter and great music.

I'm honestly more excited about the TT than pretty much any other racing event this year. It's crept up on me over the years from not really paying it much attention, to bloody loving everything about it. The Snaefell course for me is probably the best in the world. It's a proper old fashioned adventure. It's dangerous, it's thrilling. I read Michael Dunlop's book recently and it gave me an entirely new appreciation of the riders not to mention Michael himself. I'd always thought he was a surly, grumpy sod who'd slap yer soon as look at yer. And he is. But I like him. And 'That Near Death Thing' by Rick Broadbent is quite possibly the best sports book I've ever read.

The TT for me always confirms the start of the summer, too. The sky is blue, the trees are lush and green, it's a thing of beauty.

Michael's dedication to his father was more than a little moving. If you like Rick Broadbent's style, also try Ring Of Fire. Great Book.

From Manx Radio,

Sixty-seven-year-old delayed Monday's practice session

A Yorkshire pensioner will spend the rest of the TT in prison after rowing with marshals and delaying yesterday’s practice session (Monday).

67 year old James William Ford of Rangepark Road in Bingley appeared before Deputy High Bailliff Jayne Hughes this afternoon.

He admitted obstructing racing and failing to comply with marshals, becoming the first person prosecuted under the Road Races Act 2016.

The court heard the session was delayed by 20 minutes after Ford refused to move from his position in Crosby.

Prosecution advocate Mike Jelski said Ford became aggressive and belligerent towards marshals just before 6pm when they asked him to move from a gateway.

They rang the clerk of the course, who spoke to Ford only to be told “I’m not moving. If you send police you’d better make sure they’re big lads”.

Ford did eventually move, crossing the course before police arrived and arrested him.

Mrs Hughes said a message needed to be sent that marshals don’t deserve to be abused when they’re doing their jobs.

She sentenced Ford to a total of four weeks in custody, meaning he’ll be released after the end of the race festival – after which he’ll be deported and banned from the Island for five years.

I love this but I quite hate myself for not watching it until a couple of years ago.

It's breathtaking watching these daredevils flying through the streets, truly something to behold.  They must have huge balls, just like F1 drivers used to have long long ago.

Deano's 2nd lap breaks the Superbike Race lap record, 2nd fastest lap ever, just the third time that 17 minutes has been broken. Only Michael has previously gone sub 17 mins and  has gone that little faster on Senior Race day which is traditionally faster, more practice and more rubber down. Staggering. When interviewed he said, "I wasn't really trying to be honest"

Why is Hutchinson so slow on the Fireblade?

He only had the external fixator removed two weeks ago so that he could compete in the NW200. Last years crash on the mountain left his previously shattered leg shattered again. He's had to grow the fibia 2.5 inches 65mm since last June, (when the tyre exploded at 180 mph) to enable him to walk and his ankle has been fused. It's going to take some time to get back to what he was, there'll be no heroics this year sadly. He's almost having to re-learn riding a bike, his left leg, shattered in 2010 and again in '17 has created a situation whereby he has to have a right hand foot gear lever as the Brit bikes of the sixties are. Not easy when you only know that left foot being the gear shifter. Emergency situations, the mind just goes into auto mode, that's what caused Robert's crash at the NW, because the front brake was under the clutch on the left.

The Course car incident is worrying also for other reasons - were flags ignored? not visible? not there? did the car hit the bike or the bike hit the car? was the vehicle authorised etc?  If the powers that be are going to allow dangerous events they have to be sure marshalling is top notch and events like this threaten the long term running of the sport

No TV in the US until Sat race day.  A somber way to start the event but here's to hoping it's safe as can be for the rest of it.  The race is a favorite in our household.

That is the superbike race. The Senior next Friday is considered the main race. All the Superbikes that run this Saturday will be entered in the Senior along with a few superstocks and maybe a GP machine etc. The bikes don't have to of a given class to enter but have to qualify for it.

There is no TV broadcast live, highlights of each day are shown that given evening on ITV4.

It is. Competitors were clearly instructed to ride back against the flow of the circuit. I believe there's going to be serious repercussions. I'm amazed that the guys were prepared to do this frankly, I wouldn't have.
