Ferrari or Vettel, made too many mistakes this year to take the championship, also the last year as well. Seb hits and knocks on other racing car too much, like he did with Ham, or Kimi the last year.
I do suspect like Gary Anderson says that a certain part of Ferrari is starting to think that Ferrari needs a stronger No.1 driver.
Seb got his chance, and could not make it. Like Alonso could not.
Le Clerk seems to fill in the expectation for the No.1 status. 2019 might be considered as the year of transition.
This is not bad for racing. HAM vs ALO, VET vs LEC!
Last year I really think we didn't have the overall car/team to win the titles but this year we do have it and this is making it even more painful to watch the team self destruct at the end...
But hey, it's been some time since Ferrari were really a winning team by merit, this year in a long long time (pb since 2010) I can say Ferrari really had a car which could take the title on performance and on merit!
Since we still have a pretty young and inexperienced team, I will put this year as part of the learning process and try to see the full half of the glass... maybe this year will put the finishing touches and we have have a strong next year.
I feel like our team is nearly there but we need to make one last small step... but you know how it is right? The last step is the hardest to take.
Regarding Charles, I think he'll need a few years to mature, learn & adapt... that's not to say that he can't challenge for the title next year already - I certainly hope we have a car that car fight again next year... - but that it will take a few more years for him to finally unveil his potential but also gaining the very important experience and maturity! So Charles will not be hitting his peak for a few more years and it's gonna be interesting to see if his natural speed and talent can propel him in the title fight even as early as next year (as long as Ferrari delivers again a competitive car of course)
