I think McLaren MP4-30 had 7 or 8 parts, so there is still a long way to in order to suprass that

Interesting.
Things are definitely in disarray at McLaren.
Whitmarsh has a very valid point. essentially he is saying WTF are you doing thinking about Indy and LeMans when the F1 program sucks. makes no sense.

Maybe they could win money if they have success in those, and that could help for F1 (I have no idea)

Awesome English in that article in a UK newspaper!
"Whitmarsh, who spent 25 years at McLaren before being leaving as team principal in 2014, "

Bloody hell thats an interesting interview. Strong words from Whitmarsh. Could well see him back in the job by the end of the year.

I will say the teams infrastructure seems to be in a state of shambles imo, moreso than ever. Brinnging in Brown was good for the marketing/sponsorship side of course, but that means very little when the technical department has inept folks at the helm making poor decision after another, with seemingly no postive recruitment taking place to help build the technical prowess. Its a mess if you as me.

People criticized Whitmarsh's passivity when leading the team, and I still think back to the products in 2013 and 2014 built under Whitmarsh's leadership. Barf. The cars were almost as bad as the MCL33.
If the rumor is true and there is doubt within the organization, Whitmarsh is not the answer.

Can't disagree with anything Whitmarsh says. McLaren could do with him back. They've designed a bit of a lemon and whilst Brown is a good blowhard it's a thin veneer of bullshit (I know that will be unpopular as he is a bit of a folk hero here), and his time seems to be spent keeping Alonso happy. Meanwhile, they've made one guy a scapegoat, gone backwards on track, and failed to attract any new sponsorship, instead plastering the car with Alonso's brand as part payment of his salary. I know Whitmarsh was forced out, and Ojjeh returned the favour on Dennis, but all that lengthy infighting has left the team a bit of a shambles.

No offence mate but 95% of the post was just chatting rubbish.
-We do not know if Goss was a scapegoat or if he was liable, nor do we know if anyone else could be fired.
-Alot of new sponsors have been found (Dell, FXPro, Petrobas, Airgain, plus a new shareholder)
-Adding kimoa branding to reduce Alonso's salary is a genius idea seeing as there was no sponsor to put there anyway.
-I don't believe Whitmarsh is the answer seeing as the decline in McLaren started in 2013 coincidentally his last year in charge.

That was pathetic. He keeps talking about politics but going public like that and commenting actual management and backdoor noises isn't cheap political coups ?. IHe missed an opportunity to shut it up, specially considering his own management's outcome.

Even though I am a Alonso fan and believe that he is still one of the top 3 drivers, I feel McLaren should replace him with Norris next year. McLaren won't fight for significant positions in the next few years and it doesn't make any sense to hire his services. They are trying too hard to make him happy where as the focus needs to be elsewhere.

Tbh, without Alonso, they would be p7/p8 in WCC. Of course I don’t kno how Norris would fare but I am willing to bet he won’t get near Alonso’s total.

I agree, that was completely inappropriate. And also difficult to understand, because of two things: even if he was campaigning for the job, those kind of things should be dealt behind the curtains (not only for ethical reasons, also for effectiveness sake) and second because, AFAIK, he is currently working in an America Cup project and I don't think his employers will like to see him focused on his former's job troubles.
On the other hand, I want to see a positive on this story (assuming it's true) and it's that McLaren staff has not become accustomed to not winning and make directors feel the heat (as opposite to Williams some years ago?).

Yup but I don't think they'll be able to finish above P6 this season. The car is a dog in qualifying atleast and you can't bank on having great starts all the time.

I agree it isn't an opinion piece but the stance of the article makes it seem like there is going to be a mutiny tomorrow. Mclaren clearly have a lot on their plate now and they clearly know they are under achieving by a fair margin this year but to suggest everyone is up in arms, up against each others throats isn't a fair assessment.
Daily fail is known to twist or cherry pick quotes out of context based on the kind of tabloid 'journalism' they do.

Tbh, for some weird reason they haven’t had good starts either. The car is really good in race trim and that’s why they even have these many points. If they somehow figure out what’s wrong with their Saturday pace, it has enough race pace to be best of the rest in results on Sunday.

Maybe they can use that £200m investment to build a secret test track under the MTC. You know, like in that cartoon?

People forget how much McLaren was going downhill under Whitmarsh's era and fall victim to recency bias.

Agreed, Whitmarsh isn't the ultimate solution. BUT. He knows McLaren as well as anyone. I'm sure he's learnt a lot in his time of reflection and experience with the American Cup.
Some consultancy from him could go a long way.

I'm not dismissing what he said. I implied he wasn't the answer to take over as head principal.

This precisely tells that something SERIOUS is wrong with McLaren, and it ain't taking any less than 4-5 years to fix it. If it was issue with not having best technical staff, one could expect things to turn better in 2 years, but this seems like an organization heading towards major human resource collapse, in terms of abilities, motivation & innovation.
Something tells me that the heads managing the team are probably not the ones who have as good knowledge of racing, its dynamics as the other teams.

This seems a revolt from the floor, I think this is the understandable after all this time from people that work at factory but has no input design decisions. They do hard work but no results, push extra time to have that wing ready, that piece in no time, but after all that work and effort nothing improves. It can be a breakdown of trust between workers and engineers.
