Is F1 coming home? Or will the Italian team deny the English and repeat their 1990 feat?

Wrong race. The Italian Grand Prix is on September 2nd.

Anyone think Lewis is drinking too much monster? That stuff is awful for you!
Great thing about being a hard working athlete is that you can consume tons of garbage that others cant and get away with it.

Motorsport is French though, isn't it? But then I wouldn't have an opener for the thread.

I often wonder if it's actually some specialist personalised sport scientist developed performance drink just in a Monster bottle/can for the sponsorship reasons

I wish Sky would be able to get Jenson a bit more often. Not a fan of him racing in F1, but since I met him I really liked him off track.

Pretty sure that the bottle has just Monster on it for sponsoring reasons, not the actual content
Vettel looks quite in discomfort. The speed in the race is quite lower, but still, unlike qualifying you cant just take breaks between the laps. So uh, could be a factor in theory today. Hopefully it wont, though.
The heat should be an advantage for Ferrari and if they stay 2&3 (or better, given their starts) they should have the strategic advantage, although if Hamilton pulls away quickly this wont matter unless another VSC strikes. Things have been close thus far this weekend between both teams, so I dont expect anyone to pull away. Bottas could be another factor if he happens to be used as a roadblock, though.
So yeah, I think this race is quite open today.

He was excellent in the commentary box when Honda got suspended. While he is still racing he won't do more than the odd race.I wish Sky would be able to get Jenson a bit more often. Not a fan of him racing in F1, but since I met him I really liked him off track.

Personally I fear these often unfit for purpose-tires will play too big a role.

If Lewis can survive the first couple of laps he's got a great chance - Merc strategy need to be on it though...
Would be nice to see Kimi convert his recent form into a win - getting by Vet at the start would spice the race up.

Any read as to what track temp looks like? It's notably cloudier and windier today around London/Southern England, so would assume this would have an adverse impact on track temps.

If a 1stop combination of Soft and Medium tyres is the theoretically quicker combination in Silverstone, with 50 degrees track temperature, then something is clearly wrong....

I just got up (it's 8am where I am) and rushed down the stairs put on the TV so I didn't miss the start only to discover that this week's race is also on an hour late. Is this the new normal?
I hope it doesn't become like Indycars with no predictable starting time.

It is wrong when the presumption is that races should be two-stoppers. It is wrong in this day and age because it’s a consequence of the regulations, which means you have to drive to a delta. Save fuel, save the PU. And, the tires can’t take it anyway.
Silverstone is probably the most demanding circuit in terms of tyres, especially at this heat. A one stopper should only have been possible with a combination of Mediums and Hards, or Extra Hards.
I have no problem with one stoppers, or no stoppers at all - it's just that the tyre range and nomenclature is horribly wrong.

If the tires were less durable, we'd get more stops. Teams do one stops cuz the tires can handle it.

Motorsport is French though, isn't it?
Probably, yeah. Regardless, Silverstone makes a nice home base for F1. It's certainly hard to argue against it with all those teams being located nearby.
But unlike the idiom, home isn't always where the heart is. F1's heart is definitely in Italy.
Anyway! Here's hoping for a fun scrap between Vettel and Hamilton.
And Vettel not messing up the other Ferrari's start - one of his few weak points during his stint at Ferrari.

Tyres remaining and Pirelli's suggestion for race strategies:
I would expect 2th soft stint would be more beneficial at end race with lighter car and full car faster would hurt softer tires. Can someone explain why I'm wrong?
#31

I doubt that anyone would want to go S-S-M. Even those with an intention for a two stopper will go S-M-S, to keep all their options open.

That's an option too, yea.
Whether it's better will be situational. What kind of pace you can expect(Soft vs Medium has big pace difference), what kind of traffic you'll have to face, how well do the tires really hold up in race conditions?

These cars are not trundling around out there. They used to have to be more careful with deltas in the cheese Pirelli era because the tires had much less usable life. Which created more pitstops.
There's only so much tire saving you can do without slowing to a crawl. These tires are durable and that's why teams one-stop. They are frequently putting in fast laps after like 30-40+ laps, which is unheard of in the cheese Pirelli era.

he's an awful starter

...but, the aim is two-stop races. Personally I miss the races being sprint-stints, but if one wanted to get back to that, that shouldn’t be enginered through tires, but through bringing back having to stop for fuel.

Regarding Vettel's neck, I assume that any painkiller he might be able to take will be given to him right now, so as to be effective right at the time of the race.
Also, regarding tyres, if every race is an one stopper, why not allow them to do a non-stopper?

Of course it is. As if athletes drink something laced with guarana. He's having either water, or some specially developed electrolyte filled hydrating sports drink put inside that monster bottle/can.

Painkillers aren't allowed by the doping rules

A little bit worried by Seb's neck, he looked in one hell of a pain yesterday after quali, even if he said there were no problems at all.

Not even some paracetamol or ibuprofen? Or perhaps some ointment, like Voltaren?

Of course, I assume that he can take nothing that would affect his concentration or reflex times. But there is also a myriad of OTC drugs which maybe could be used.
