I own a 1960 TVR Grantura Mk2 Climax registered 3262 CD that was raced by a Charles Saunders (Initials AC Saunders) at Brands Hatch (BRSCC, PECO Trophy and MGCC & Allard OC sprints), Goodwood 44th MM, 51st & 59th Sports Car Meeting, Snetterton West Essex, Cadwell Park & class record holder at Firle Hill Climb. The records I have found are between 1961 and 1963.

Charles advertised the car in 1964 and seems to have purchased a Lola MK1 which he hill climbed at Valence July 1964 (BTD) and Bodiam Oct 1968 (and probably others). He may have been a member of Sevenoaks and District MC and when the Grantura was advertised the phone number given was TATE Gallery 8142 (work number?).

Does anyone have any knowledge of Charles Saunders. I have a few photos at Snetterton, Brands and Firle (not my copyright) he seems to have worn black rimmed glasses.

Thank you for any help- it would also be interesting to track down the chassis number of the Lola.

Not much help I'm afraid but nice to see a Mk1 Midget with a rare Starsprite bonnet.

Thanks - your Sprite website looks very comprehensive - I may have to do some similar with Granturas.

Lola Mk1, chassis BR9?: Edward Greenall >> Peter Boshier-Jones for 1961 Hill Climbs - at this time the car had dark bodywork with light-coloured full-width diamond-shaped motif across the nose.

Great Auclum National Speed Hill Climb, Saturday 11 August 1962:

Class 2, Sports Cars up to 1100 c.c.

#18 J. Richardson/Mrs B. Richardson, Lola 1100

(Peter Boshier-Jones is entered in #23 Lotus 23, so has presumably disposed of his Lola.)

Is the Richardson car BR9?

Did Saunders acquire this hill-climbing Lola? BR9 does not turn up in the Lola Heritage records? This is an intriguing mystery.

Goodwood, 7th June 1965, Event Three:

Whitsun Trophy Race for Sports and Grand Touring Cars

(21 Laps, 50 Miles)

#79 A.C. Saunders, Lola Climax, 1149, Green

Not known if ran.

We are looking for a Lola Mark 1 for sale, probably in the first half of 1964?

From the Lola Heritage website:

25th July 1964, Valence Hillclimb - Sevenoaks and District MC, Lola (Mk1?), Hugh Balfour, Class Winner

Shared drive with Saunders?

Does anybody have a report of the Valence Hill Climb in 1964? (see Post #1)

Balfour also ran in the 750 M.C. Relay Race at Silverstone, 8 August 1964.

What is this?

Just received David Pratley's Lola Mk1 book - says Charles Saunders bought BR -18 in 1963 (First owner Chris Kerrison)- I believe it may now be owned by Ian Robinson UK (HSCC competitor). Anyone know Ian so I can make contact?

Thank you
