As we have both a silly season thread for IndyCar and our new USF2000 champion crowned, let's look ahead to next year's installments of the lower echelons of the MRTI ladder. My guesses are:

Indy Lights

Pato O'Ward and Colton Herta (maybe Urrutia depending on funding) move up to IndyCar.

Rinus VeeKay, Carlos Cunha and Parker Thompson join from Pro Mazda.

Ryan Tveter and Diego Mencheca join from GP3 (unless they go to IndyCar).

Other names stay and join.

Pro Mazda

Harrison Scott stays on for another crack at the title (him sitting out this weekend won't have done his title chances any good). David Malukas and Oliver Askew do likewise.

Newly crowned USF2000 champ Kyle Kirkwood joins with Cape. Current second place man Rasmus Lindh does likewise.

Felipe Drugovich joins RP. If Drugovich goes the F3 route, Guilherme Samia joins RP.

Yves Baltas, Raul Guzman, Neil Verhagen, Marcos Siebert and Liam Lawson join the series, with which teams I don't know.

Some random names from USF2000 and other categories.

USF2000

Jamie Caroline stays on for a second season.

Whoever takes the US F4 crown and other high finishers, likely Dakota Dickerson and Danes Christian Rasmussen and Benjamin Pedersen.

you don't need Indy Lights any more. A series with just 6 or 7 cars - what's that?

Sigh, three days later and we already have to remove the "M" from this young thread's title.  :well:

If you haven't read what Prommer is talking about, Mazda is out of the entire IndyCar ladder series as of the end of this year. Really not good, especially at such a late date.

So, at this stage it appears that the biggest RTI Silly Season story will be if there's going to be a RTI in 2019 at all. :|

I've watched drivers develop since the '60s and Kyle Kirkwood is a genuine Phenom.

Outside passes? Fast Laps by up to a second? Nine wins in a row in a spec series?

I'm sold, Real Deal.

How to take a big negative and turn it positive just a day later.  They're investing in the ladder, which is so good.

But this part is the most intriguing!

Looking to the future, IndyCar and Indy Lights will try to find a new solution for 2023 that would see a common chassis used in both categories. An identical solution was proposed years ago by Dallara – before Indy Lights was handed off to Andersen Promotions – and if it were to happen, Lights teams could convert their cars upward to compete in IndyCar, and IndyCar teams would have the same option to convert down in Lights.

So this is how you get 40+ entries for the Indy 500. Plus, all these Lights chassis need an engine, so there's an added revenue stream for a 3rd engine manufacturer to sell or rent a May-only engine.

And if Alfa Romeo had any plans, they may have been scuppered by Sergio Marchionne's passing.

They do, but I don’t see them sponsoring a ladder of racing series using internal combustion engines. They would want atleast hybrid engines and preferrable all electric.

Fiat Chrysler would be a great fit, but it would be a Big decision for a new man in the seat to make.

I'm toying with the idea of adding Cameron Das to my predictions of people who could join the RTI categories (if they're still there by next year).

USF2000 powered by Ram? Um, no. If it's going to be a car manufacturer, Hyundai's my bet. Really jumping into motorsport and launching N performance division.

Are we talking about the RTI sponsor or the 3rd engine manufacturer?

I wonder if Cooper Tires will step up on the first one.

As for the second one, I'll take anybody except Lotus.  Is Proton still around?

No the 2016 US F4 champion who's been racing in Europe with Carlin and Campos for the last two years.

August update of predictions:

Indy Lights

Rinus VeeKay and Carlos Cunha move in with Juncos's IL division.

Parker Thompson steps up, not sure with which team.

Ryan Tveter and Diego Mencheca join from GP3.

Cameron Das joins from EF Open (if he doesn't elect to do another season in Europe).

Carlin return to compete in the category alongside IndyCar.

Pro Mazda (or whatever it will be called)

Oliver Askew and David Malukas remain for a second season.

Kyle Kirkwood joins Cape Motorsport (as the two preceding USF2000 champs have done).

Rasmus Lindh and Igor Fraga step up, not sure with which teams.

RP retains Harrison Scott and signs another one of its EF Open drivers, likely Guilherme Samaia.

Kory Enders, FR2.0 racer Raul Guzman and NACAM F4 champion Moises de la Vara join the series full-time.

Liam Lawson, Marcos Siebert, Neil Verhagen (due to the potential loss of his RB sponsorship), Yves Baltas, Axel Matus and Matheus Iorio join.

Some names from this season stay on too.

USF2000

Lucas Kohl, Keith Donegan and Calvin Ming stay on for a second season.

Current US F4 championship leader Dakota Dickerson joins full-time with ArmsUp.

Danes Benjamin Pedersen and Christian Rasmussen join from US F4.

Same other names come, go and join.

So Indy Lights again less than 10 cars – that's silly...

Not only silly. It's a shame because the racing is often very good.

Thanks for that. 9 cars in Indy Lights. With Carlin's plan to return there could be 11 cars on the grid. Still not enough...

Regarding the seats for Carlin's revived Indy Lights division, I predict they'll go the way of Cameron Das and either Jamie Caroline or Matheus Iorio.

Eduardo Barrichello, Rubens' son, will drive for Miller Vinatieri Racing in USF2000.

He wasn't that suprising in US Formula 4 this season. Perhaps Road to Indy route could be good for him. Would like to see him in IndyCar one day.
