indeed, the big news is of course the testing of the new 2019 frontwing:

The more simplified frontwing is meant to solve the "dirty air" problem, in order for cars behind to follow the car in front. More technical info here: https://forums.autos...tics/?p=8462944

Does that remind me of the 2009 BMW Sauber? It certainly does remind me of the 2009 BMW Sauber.

A step in the right direction. Still too big, and why not bring back the adjustable front wings... Plus get rid of all that sidepod clutter.

Why no Haas. They will get feedback from Ferrari anyway, kind of a waste of money as they see it and will would prefer to spend the money on cfd. Plus, I do not believe next years entire package has really been set rules wise, so why bother if a couple significant bits are 100 percent set that could effect next years design philosophy.

That front wing looks better! Bet the drivers can hardly tell all that crap has gone!

When's the Red Bull Honda running? 🤔🤣

Will be interesting to hear how much performance is affected by these front wings as well as if there was a noticeable improvement in following other cars

Just seen a head on picture.

Ugh, why does it need to be so wide?

Haas doesn’t have any 2019 components ready to test. And they have got a lot of data from the last 2 months they need to study further. They decided that was a better use of their resources.

Looking at this, I bet the reason was 'more sponsor space'. And then you see teams running with blank rear wings.

if the problem was outwash front wings, why not have front wings onyl as wide as where the inner wall of the tyres are?

They also have no driver to run. Both Kevin and Romain did the 2 days in Barcelona so they have to run a rookie with less than 2 GPs and the current reserve driver who would meet that criteria is err, banned at the moment from GP2 so it wouldn't exactly look good if he was driving in the F1 test. I guess they may have run Giovinazzi but he is already driving both days, no idea who else they would use if they deemed it to be worth running?

I assume the compromise of pushing them through next year was keeping/increasing the width.

Hopefully we get smaller wings again in 2021

If they wanted to test it wouldn't be a problem to find drivers. Plenty of young drivers waiting for a chance, some even could pay for such an opportunity. It's not like it absolutely has to be someone already associated with them.

Much better, but I think they also need to get right of all the rest of the tacked on aero stuff. Clean the cars up and they will look better and create less turbulence.

not mentioned here, but Gelael won't return to the track:

Red flag at the Hungaroring, and it appears that Sean Gelael has gone off in the Toro Rosso during his Pirelli tyre test.

We're hearing that it was at the high-speed Turn 11.

and we had some rain:

Lol, yeah right. Hypersoft tyres, lowish fuel load and better condition than on race weekend and PU that you can stress as much as you want.

Anything preceding 2009 was like that.
---
Problem: car front aero suffers in close quarters.
Solution: add more front wing.

Anyone else sees the problem in that?

:D that was precisely my first thought.

More serious, it does show what a rocket they have ATM, and supposedly with the added bonus of being easy to set up and drive. Or alternatively. Giovinazzi is the new SeFaPro*.

*Senna, Fangio Prost combined

Actually it is a very good idea to let Giovinazzi to drive the Ferrari today and Sauber tomorrow.

If the weather will be roughly the same there will be a very good base for comparison and simulator fine tuning.

Or Vettel would probably go into 14's in Q3 when he did 16,1 in FP 3 and that on US. and Mercedes would be round 2 tenths off.

Its like kindergarten here lately

Maybe they are trying something PU related and it didn’t work/caused problems?
