Reports say that he is still in a hospital in Austria for rehab and might change the clinic soon (Switzerland). Everything before Spain is nonsense, but let's wait first of all if we will see him on a track ever again... A GP outside of Europe with Lauda, don't think that will happen again...
I don't believe he is living in hospital, though I am sure he still visits for checks and rehab. He's even been to Ibiza again.
According to his doctor, named as Walter Klepetko, Lauda is still not physically strong enough to do everything for himself and a trans-continental flight isn't appropriate due to the sheer number of people he'd be among at the airport, on the plane and at the race. Clearly he's still somewhat weak (hence rehab) and vulnerable to infection.
But people certainly do travel long haul across continents after lung transplants. Hopefully Niki is following doctor's advice...though really he's never been known to follow any path other than his own....part of the reason I look up to him.
