:drunk:

Let's wait for official word...

...But if true, I can see this move. Get a team built around him.

Red Bull is Max's team.

Meh, should have been in Ferrari since i don't see either Renault or RB in the top next year.

The only Honda engine Alonso's will want to drive next year will be the one in the back of his Andretti's car.

Because the weren't competitive at all, it's easy to be on the up.

I don't see Renault building a car near the level of RB

Ricciardo is playing the long game here. I assume he doesnt expect Red Bull to go well with Honda.

Red Bull has a serious issue now: Verstappen/Sainz didnt work well at STR. None of their young drivers is good enough either. Suddenly the silly season has become exciting!

Might still end in Verstappen/Sainz or Verstappen/Gasly though.

I can see it making sense if you don't believe in Honda and don't want to be outpaced by Max V. most of the time.

I think either way Ricciardo sees his chances of winning with Red Bull are slim in the next couple of years. Maybe an odd race win like in recent seasons, but that's it? But - like Alonso - he isn't interested in fighting for minor podiums, but wants to compete for the championship. Alonso went even as far as signing for McLaren-Honda in 2015. So sometimes drivers can do desperate things in attempt to change fortunes.

I can see the Honda engine bringing RedBull closer to Renault though.

Sainz is going to Mclaren, it will be Gasly if you listen to rumors.

Big shock this one. But I'm slowly getting used to it. Headache for Christian Horner now.

Brave move! But I like it. Ricciardo at Red Bull has run its course, plus I would love to see Renault take on the fight to Ferrari/Merc/RB in the coming years. Danny boy and the Hulk are an incredibly strong pair of drivers, I'm sure they'll push the whole team forward.

If Ricciardo goes to Renault, wouldn't it be more likely that Sainz goes to Redbull than McLaren?

Is this credible? It would be very interesting, of course.

Waiting for official confirmation but Keith Collantine at Racefans runs a tight ship, so if they're reporting it...

Ricciardo's imminent departure could mean Carlos Sainz will move from Renault to McLaren.

Why would Sainz go to McLaren if this frees up a Red Bull seat?  Surely they wouldn't take anyone else, unless some more bombshells are on the way.

Where does that leave Ocon?

In a Mercedes-powered team presumably (Force India under new ownership). Unless Red Bull does what Renault attempted to do and take him from Merc...

Up a certain creek without a certain implement.

However, Indycar and Dale Ocon Racing has a ring to it.

Too many tensions between him and Max at STR.

Sainz presumably going the other way to Red Bull, if true? Can't see them promoting Gasly over him.

Great news! Not necessarily for Ricciardo, but it's always fun to see a new driver in a top team.

Dieter Rencken's name on the story too. I don't think they'd write this unless they were pretty sure.

If true kind of expected, Ricciardo is totally happy at Redbull. Max being there as the youngest WDC according to most in the team. The Redbull having issues yet again with reliability which is not all to Renault. Honda coming next year which is still a big question mark.

I thought McLaren but Renault would be a good option for him to get his shot at WDC in the next years.

Ric and Ocon at Ren
Ver and Hulk at RB
Gas and Norris at Str
VanDoorne and Sainz at MC

Guess, all the talk of wanting a seat in WC capable team/seat were not that important in the end. Bit shocked to see him kill his career over his mastercard balance. Good look in being in the midfield battle for next 2 years.

It’s not just the Daily Mail reporting it, there are reporters with credible backgrounds in F1 saying this is very likely to happen now.

RB Honda a WC capable team? Takes a lot of faith.

I'll be very curious to hear the reasoning from his side. I must admit I struggle to see his perspective on this one. I doubt he'd go for just the cash.

Jesus.... I really didn't expect that. Clearly fed up with unreliability and the prospect of Honda.

Good luck to him, but can't help but feel this is an 'Alonso' type decision.

It's a bold, bold decision - like the one Hamilton made when he joined Mercedes. Will it pay off? Only time will tell. We know that Renault could, in the right circumstances, be a championship contending team down the line - let's see if Ricciardo is the one to take them there.

Actually I think more likely it could be

Ocon at Red Bull

Hulk at Renault

Than the other way around.

Because arguably Hulk still has a valid contract with Renault, and Red Bull has always been more eager in young talent, and Ocon is younger than Hulk.
