Is this a earlier version of the same car ?

Did he not also build his own F3 car, and race a Costin-Nathan at Le Mans  ?

Yes, I'd seen that photo before, I'm not sure if it's the same car but with a different colour scheme.

As I recall a man named Norman Abbott was a club racer from the Ilford, Essex (in those days, "East London" now) area when I was a young teenager. I think he started racing an Anglia and went on from there. I seem to recall the racer outside the family home very occasionally.

Yes he definitely raced an Anglia from around 1964 onwards (possibly earlier). My main memory of him was being at Brands Boxing Day 1971 when Gerry Marshall booted Abbot's pink Escort up the backside along the Bottom Straight.

Didn't his Escort use a Hewland transaxle? I seem to recall there was, briefly, some controversy about it (presumably because not all of the drive-train was in its original location?).

This website suggests he worked for Ford.  Ilford, Dagenham...sounds quite likely...

Like Pete, I saw Gerry Marshall help NA find the quickest way around the Brands short circuit on a cold December day in 1971. Here's the car earlier that year at Snetterton. Lord Longford having a peek inside I think. Or is it BBC Arts Correspondent Will Gompertz?
