Guest driver in the Misano DTM race in his specially prepared bimmer with hand controls. Even in the RAIN he finished 5th! 51 year old against those youngsters! He continues to amaze!!!
Would have been nice if "Jeemy" had been there to watch it.

When was the last time we even had a 51-year-old driver in the DTM? Especially one that hadn't driven there before...
I'm not saying he would have the potential to be a top driver or anything, but for what is was his performance was fine, and I'm sure he would improve a bit (but most likely not enough for it to be worth it) with time if he did more races.

He lost heaps of time after the SC period though. Perhaps he is old skool and not to using the runoffs like DTM did. It was atrocious to see the new lines around Misano. Just graveltrap the damned runoff zones. This was a mockery.

Zanardi was also fast in the dry session of FP3, it's not like he was gifted a top 5 finish!
I think that's impressive, he improved 4 seconds on dry conditions between FP1 (saturday) & FP3 (sunday)

He had troubles on the wet pace-wise, that's true, but he basically had no testing on it.
He's a legend.

Great as it was, the result was heavily influenced ...
That's racing.
Everyone else was in the same boat.
I don't see anyone talking about putting an asterisk next to Eriksson's win... Do you?
The dude has no legs and is 51 years old. P5.
This is a the picture of a F#@King Champion:
Evidently he doesn't need legs as he just rolls around on the big brass set he has.

Let's not forget, this was basically a test outing for Alex, he's supposed to be doing the Daytona 24 next year in one of the GTLM-spec M8s.

What a legend.

To me, Alex Zanardi is an even bigger inspiration than Lewis Hamilton. What an individual.

If you're interested in seeing Alex in action and how his hand controls work:

If I could have a beer with anyone from the history of motor racing, I think Zanardi would be my guy. He's such an inspiring person. Thought I was going crazy when I read a headline that he finished 5th in a DTM race. I'm sure he would adapt if given enough time testing the car, let's not forget that he was an occasional winner while driving WTCC BMWs not all that long ago.

Wonderful achievement regardless, although I believe in both races he was "last" of the respective "group" he was in (final finisher in the 1st race, and last of the 5 cars who got lucky with strategy during the rain). Not to diminish his comeback, though - and I would love to see him full time in ANY racing series. Well done, and what a guy.
