Guest driver in the Misano DTM race in his specially prepared bimmer with hand controls.  Even in the RAIN he finished 5th!   51 year old against those youngsters!  He continues to amaze!!!

Would have been nice if "Jeemy" had been there to watch it.

Great as it was, the result was heavily influenced by him being one of four drivers staying out on wets on a drying track until it unexpectedly started to rain again, meaning they only had to do one pit stop instead of two. Still, great result from a great guy. Loved his pre-race interview too. Said he felt like a kid in a candy store and he certainly looked the part, grinning from ear to ear.

Great result and he is just awesome. It was nice seeing him with Billy Monger as well. But he isn’t the fastest guy around anymore. His qualifying time for race two was two seconds slower that the next slowest driver.

Great result. Yes, a lot of fortune required but a good news story all the same.

When was the last time we even had a 51-year-old driver in the DTM? Especially one that hadn't driven there before...

I'm not saying he would have the potential to be a top driver or anything, but for what is was his performance was fine, and I'm sure he would improve a bit (but most likely not enough for it to be worth it) with time if he did more races.

51 is not really that old for driving cars, especially if you have maintained such a level of fitness throughout your life.

One day, this guy is gonna find a way to keep winning stuff in his coffin, he's just unstoppable! :D

He lost heaps of time after the SC period though. Perhaps he is old skool and not to using the runoffs like DTM did. It was atrocious to see the new lines around Misano. Just graveltrap the damned runoff zones. This was a mockery.

Zanardi was also fast in the dry session of FP3, it's not like he was gifted a top 5 finish!
I think that's impressive, he improved 4 seconds on dry conditions between FP1 (saturday) & FP3 (sunday)

He had troubles on the wet pace-wise, that's true, but  he basically had no testing on it.

He's a legend.

That's racing.

Everyone else was in the same boat.

I don't see anyone talking about putting an asterisk next to Eriksson's win... Do you?

The dude has no legs and is 51 years old. P5.

This is a the picture of a F#@King Champion:

Evidently he doesn't need legs as he just rolls around on the big brass set he has.

Let's not forget, this was basically a test outing for Alex, he's supposed to be doing the Daytona 24 next year in one of the GTLM-spec M8s.

To me, Alex Zanardi is an even bigger inspiration than Lewis Hamilton. What an individual.

If you're interested in seeing Alex in action and how his hand controls work:

If I could have a beer with anyone from the history of motor racing, I think Zanardi would be my guy. He's such an inspiring person. Thought I was going crazy when I read a headline that he finished 5th in a DTM race. I'm sure he would adapt if given enough time testing the car, let's not forget that he was an occasional winner while driving WTCC BMWs not all that long ago.

What a great achievement. Zanardi is a special guy and really happy for him. He should be a role model to all for sheer determination and courage he has shown since his terrible accident in 2001.

Wonderful achievement regardless, although I believe in both races he was "last" of the respective "group" he was in (final finisher in the 1st race, and last of the 5 cars who got lucky with strategy during the rain).  Not to diminish his comeback, though - and I would love to see him full time in ANY racing series.  Well done, and what a guy.
