completely agree. It's only pre season testing if people are that bothered there is always the mute button

I have been watching on mute, but it would be nice to hear the cars.

Testing does not need to be shown live on TV IMO. I would not waste money to buy Sky just for crappy testing hardly justify's the price of it. The youtube highlights covers anything interesting what has happened in the sessions.

You not think that since he's such a grafter all year that maybe he deserves some family time?

Formula one reporter at a formula one event... not really too much of a shocker is it?

I’d actually have thought he’d want to be there, his passion for f1 is obvious.

Perhaps there’s an unknown reason why he’s not there. Hopefully all is ok.

According to Motorsport Broadcasting (nee F1) it's £10pm on top of your Sky package guaranteed for 2 years.

£10 a month for access to just the F1 channel?

You can add the whole 8 channel sports package for £13 a month at the moment. (Normally £30 a month)

HD is standard on all the sports channels now.

£10 a month for a single channel is still a huge price hike disguised as a “deal”.

Wow, welcome to 2019

Isn't it just £8 a month cheaper?

Previously it was £18 a month to add.

So £96 savings over a year. You could buy an F1TV subscription with that

So £22 for the basic package, 18 month minimum contract. Then £27 after that. £10 a month for two years of F1 on top. Total cost for 2 years, £798.

Makes it £19 a race (21 race seasons), just to watch the F1 on Sky if you didn't already have sky.

Progress!

Not saying that it's good or bad but incidentally £19 a race is approximately what F1 Digital + cost on Sky (£12 per weekend) back in 2002 accounting for inflation, of course later in the year they offered £50 season tickets for the last few races.

Call me a cheap-skate, but I'm not forking out £120 just for this. I'd cancel my Sky contract completely, except that they have us all by the balls because we have many hours of recorded material on the Sky+ which would be inaccessible if I cancelled. I'm still going to dump their broadband as, for the lowest level of service (was 5k with BE now less than 4k with Sky), it's now just a few quid less than the super-fast fibre deal from BT.

The thing I have learned from Sky is that they seem competitive, but they raise the prices by a huge percentage every year unless you complain.

It's a reasonable deal in some ways.

Meanwhile for those that currently have different Sky packages bills are set to rise on the 1st of April.

This is the thing with the sky, there will always be annual increases so they get their money back from you in the end. Naturally you can play "the game" of threatening to leave each time your contract is up for a discount but its a losing battle longer term. £10 for f1 might be guaranteed for 2 years but the sky package price itself wont be, you can be sure of that.

Interesting that sky release this morning covers line up but no mention of Kravitz or Ant Davidson.

Jake Humphrey also mentioned whisper will have some big news on their c4 coverage soon...so we will see.

Either:
1. Ted has been dismissed and it's being kept quiet (he was quite anti-PC on occasion).

2. He's moved to C4 (or even FOM?) and is waiting to announce - maybe he doesn't want to contribute to the UK's F1 paywall.

3. He's taken a step back from the role to focus on his family. His wife gave birth recently (start of last year?).

Ant... Maybe he is re-focussing on his WEC career? He was always a Sky man through and through, so I doubt he's moved elsewhere.

Ant Davidson is entered for Dragonspeed at Le Mans, don't know whether it's a full season.

Yeah. The used to have an annual rise in September, but now it just keeps going up and up.

Always makes me laugh when people quote ridiculous prices to watch sky F1.

There was a Now Tv season ticket deal last year in march for £150 which was very reasonable as it included the full sports package

But it's not the same service and you can't record and watch later AND it's a crazy £150 - you may think that is reasonable, I say it's outrageous.

(not to mention, if you don't have them, you need to add a decent internet service and a smart TV to the cost)

Yes, but once you're used to Full HD and even 4k, 720p is bloody awful. Doesn't matter how well it is upscaled.

As I get my TV through Virgin, to get F1 I have to buy the whole sports package at £32 per month. This includes loads of football which I don't watch at all. That is a massive rip off and I refuse to pay it. I need to be with Virgin because my partner needs fast broadband for her work. I could go down the VPN route, but I really can't be bothered with all the hassle. So that's me not watching F1.

Not sure what world you're living in but you don't get advanced television services for free. What would you pay? Tenner for the full satellite service per month? If you don't like it don't pay. Easy

When you cancel it’s 31 days till it takes effect so you are paying for 2 months regardless.

Admittedly it depends on the exact terms, the 2 year price guarantee does seem positive, although if you are required to have SkyQ to get it, it is not so positive to me. I believe the SkyQ multiroom set up is a step backwards compared to 2 independent Sky+HD boxes personally.

Too bad, I liked Ted. I watched his qualy and race notebooks every race weekend. Hopefully FOM picks him up for their F1TV or youtube channel or something. Sky is trash anyway, I only watch it because it's the only coverage we have here in Canada.

Chandok was a good signing but I’d have got Crofty out instead of Ted. Chandoks knowledge is too good to just be a pit lane reporter and arguably he is more knowledgeable than both Sky’s current commentators combined so it should be him alongside brundle in the comm box no?

Being dependent on the internet isn't an issue to for me, only being 720p and the delay are only minor drawbacks, but it is the poor frame rate and the lack of being able to watch later that is the killer of this option for me.

Last weekend I was watching live WRC via the Red Bull TV app on my smart TV and the picture was perfect, it didn't look any different to watching via satellite. This just highlights how poor Now TV's streaming is, especially since it is from a broadcaster with Sky's expertise. NowTV isn't available on my Smart TV so I can't see how it plays on there.

I feel for Virgin Media TV customers, they have been screwed over Sky Sports for years. I ditched their TV service myself a few years ago in favour of Sky, which admittedly was the reason why Sky didn't offer Virgin Media the same ability to offer Sky Sports F1 seperately.

Could you not keep the Virgin Media broadband and switch to Sky's TV service instead?

If he has been fired by Sky, I hope that this does happen, and that he continues to do his notebook for them. Preferably on YouTube so everyone can enjoy it.

Ted's notebook is the only part of the BBC, Channel 4 & Sky Sports coverage that I watched every race.
