As reported by the F1 Broadcasting Blog, Motorsport TV is to close at the end of September.

Apparently there will be a move to online broadcasting, but in terms of viewing through Sky this will disappear.

Not particularly positive news for a UK based motorsport fan.

Certainly bad news must be the channel I have watched most often since it started as Motors TV

Yes, the "linear" TV channel is shutting down and Motorsport.tv is going online and on demand exclusively.

The shows and the racing coverage from the TV channel will be available online - you'll also have the option of watching them on demand at a time that's more suitable for you.

You can get a 30 day trial at Motorsport.tv to see what this is like, or you can sign up using our channel on Apple TV or our iOS/Android apps. The trial is entirely free - you don't need to enter any credit card or payment details!

I love motorsport.tv online. My only complaint is that it buffers quite a bit, sometimes not very watchable. But they have a lot of content.

MotorsTV was great. MotorsportTV was ok. MotorsportTV.com is rubbish. Never got though a race or interview without massive buffering.

MotorsTV was great. MotorsportTV was OK. A great shame to lose it. Watching online really isn't the same. Especially when at a friend's house, even with the wifi password....watching on my phone just doesn't cut it.

At home I have the desktop PC hooked into the TV and AV amp.....but it still isn't the same. Far more difficult to record onto DVDs, which is still something I do. Quality rarely is up to Virgin Media TV too, and it's not my broadband connection (100mbps)....the streams just aren't at the same bit rate as digital TV.

So since we are on this topic. What IS the best online website to watch all things racing? I live in Canada and we get absolutely nothing for racing. I don't have cable TV anyways. I use Motorsport.tv and I have already alluded to and so has jonpollak,  that it buffers so much it's damn near unwatchable. I don't mind paying a subscription fee but I want good content ( not just F1) and a good speed with no buffering. So what are some good suggestions?

I feared this would happened the Motorsport cartel took it over, they have ruined everything else. All of the publications seemingly just publish the same content these days.

So does the Motorsport TV website let you watch for free, or do you need to have a subscription to view anything? Grayson advert makes me think it is the latter.

I am likely going to be keeping my money.

Oh dear - I really enjoyed the History of Le Mans series - recorded it and watched when I wanted.

The Motorsport show was pretty good but not something I am going to hunt out

BT sport has been showing ELMS and WEC which I used to watch on Motorsport TV. I hope that continues

First month is free but then it's $5 a month after that I think. Not unreasonable at all. The big issue is their bandwidth. It's horrible. Programs are always pausing to buffer. Unless they fix that it will never be viable

Not a lot .

YouTube was AWESOME for Indycar but that's going the way of the dinosaur next year.

I checked out NBCSports GOLD in the app store.

But WOW..Looking at the comments there it looks like it doesn't work AT ALL.

So I have yet to D/L it.

I cannot believe that streaming sites have become so poor in the last year.

SAD..

Perhaps their princes no longer receive sufficient "funding?"

Oh, good news. So from watching WEC and F1 this year, I'll be watching neither next year. I'm sure someone is calling it a 'positive step forward', or somesuch bollocks.

Just as well. 9 out of 10 videos linked from Autosport articles never worked for me. Admittedly I never bothered to investigate why.

BT Sport hovered up the rights to a lot of what was on MotorsTV, so less series to show

European F3 and Blancpain GT are live-streamed on YouTube (in the UK at least).

Just found this out, I'm quite gutted as I watched a lot a great stuff on there, including Le Mans.

What a shame and no, I won't be paying for the online service.

I've had a chat with the guys at Motorsport TV about the problems around bandwidth and buffering for the online platform.

The feedback we're getting (including this thread!) is making it very clear that this is a major problem and something which their developers need to prioritise. I'll try to give you an update in this thread once they're confident that things are looking a little better - that might be a good time for any ex-subscribers to take up the offer of the free trial!
