Hamilton is suggesting that Sochi would be a better track if they raced it in the opposite direction to normal.

Which other tracks would be quicker or open up more overtaking opportunity’s if they were ran in reverse?

Would be interesting to see what the lap time difference is running in the opposite direction on circuits.

Monaco would be interesting heading down the hill to San Devote. Imagine going down the hill at Raidillon/Eau Rouge

Maybe try driving a few on the F1 games?

Not fully reversed, but I've always adored this crossover version of cota, created by Loudpedal on the Motorsport Mayhem forum...

Abu Dhabi could be run backwards. If they open up some of the corners, the track could actually be pretty decent.

Can't think of any F1 circuits but there are a couple of sections on other tracks that I think could be interesting in reverse.

Road America - It would then have a steep downhill braking zone after a long straight into turn 1.

Silverstone National - The hairpin at Beckets would then be after a long straight.

Yeah. Imagine the start. Drivers need to tip-toe and be extra gentle to get through there in one piece.  :p

Estoril. At least that's what Nigel Mansell clearly thinks!

There was nothing stopping him giving it a try  :) .

Spa. During a test with Renault Heikki Kovalainen once had to run down Eau Rouge in reverse. He apparently found it pretty eye-opening.

I don't even understand his argument, he did not notice they are driving in circles?

Verstappen did it in the Redbull a few years back.

Didn’t manage it flat though.... now that would require an extra trailer for your balls.

Video of a reversed Sochi.

I don’t think it makes much difference to how dull it is.

Sounds even more terrifying.

On that note: Laguna Seca.

My favourite would be Monza, with the sandpit restored outside of Parabolica. It would be quite an interesting braking zone for that corner...

When I saw the thread title, I thought of the race in the sixties when GP drivers were let loose in Minis. The starting flag dropped, and they all reversed off the grid.

I think we need 42 races.

Every Grand Prix now, ran clockwise and anti-clockwise.

Those rare moments when the internet would've actually made the past better...

Costs and space issues mostly, they’d need to build run off areas that work in two directions, and have curbing that would work and be safe to use in either direction.

Not to mention an osteopath for your back after every few laps - You'd emerge from your car a couple of inches shorter...

There are some tracks that are licensed to run in both directions, although the only one thathat comes to my mind right now is Knockhill.

Imagine Interlagos run in reverse, the uphill section approaching the start/finish line but done in reverse and going downhill, that must be hella dangerous, just like Spa approaching Eau Rouge

Interlagos main straight is almost a constant downhill so it shouldn't be any issue flat out. In Eau Rouge the surface dips suddenly so you'd potentially lose contact with the ground, depending on how much downforce the car produces.

But yeah, none of the modern F1 circuits could be run in reverse because they need to have half a kilometer of run-off zone following every long straight.

Very few tracks are though, due to obvious logistical issues such as runoff! Typically there's heaps more in the exit of corners than on entry in an angle the cars will never run to!

All F1 2016 circuits

Oh lord, so many decreasing radius corners. It's my simracing worst nightmare, like Sepang's turns 13/14 repeated forever everywhere.

The chicanes are also so awkward.

At three points the run off was not there at all, which made me recall Canada.

This was exciting, but what is your thoughts? DO you think that run off should be made?

This detail may change the whole picture.

What about removing run off at the current direction as well?

I hated Catalunya on sims in general. I liked either flowing tracks with lots of high speed turns, or ones with lots of stop/start. Road America/Road Atlanta were always my two best tracks on most sims because they combined both of these elements; any turns that required light/minimal braking and good car placement for maximum speed were my favorite (and Road Atlanta is basically made of these). I love Suzuka but I was always average at it because I was really good at the first half and utter dog sh!te on the second. As long as I started front row I was usually fine.

But are decreasing radius corners good for challenging driver skills and separating the men from the boys?  :D

Reversing Sochi would never happen.

It would be an admission that it was not the 'most glorious auto race circuit track' ever produced. Tilke would get novichoked.

In Rallye Cologne-Ahrweiler, they run the Nürburgring Nordschleife in reverse

Mexico City. On the 1-mile oval, I mean. Would be nice to see F1 cars handling the traffic on a short oval.
