At least Ricciardo is having a great race - now 5th after starting 15th and only 10secs off VER in 3rd, who has a time penalty. And Ricciardo is on the harder tyres...

Gee thats poor from the erebus team manager, they should have replaced him at the stop. we could all see it.

Yeah Dave confirming it wasn't just cramp, after 15 laps his head was cooked. Thats super poor form from the erebus manager, should have pulled him.

That is a real shame, he was blindingly quick, had everyone covered.

Gutted for Reynolds, but he really should have been taken out of the car earlier for everyones good.

Didn't expect to see Whincup in the top 10 after being nearly 2 laps down.

Good for Craig and Scott as the championship gap will be down to 19 points.

The last lap Craig does as a full time driver round Bathurst so I suppose it's quite fitting that he leads it.

Erebus should have pulled David out at the stop. He obviously was spent. Luke may well have won it, or at least made the podium.

Bad luck for that team. They were the class act of the race.

Yet the joke Craig did the same stint with no cool suit, and without much sweat. Though the lack of ventilation in those cars is a serious matter. The hose from the left window must have been quite good but I was expecting the window to fall out! It was shaking badly.

Fairy tales do exist.

What a race. What a result. What a way to go out.

Well done Craig.

Erebus were absolute fools for not pulling Davey out of the car. Anyone with half a brain could see he was done.

Amazing result for Craig. His form has been much improved this year.

I look forward to him and Jamie dominating Bathurst for a few years.

I genuinely wish the result makes him reconsider another year - clearly wasn't him who made the decision to retire.

Well, along with Le Mans the Bathurst 1000 is my favorite race of the year. Unfortunately 2018 will not live in the memory as a classic year for either by any means. But that's motor racing, they can't all be belters. Well done to CL & JR and massive commiserations to Dave Reynolds, one thing to suffer a mechanical failure with the win in sight, heartbreaking to suffer a body failure... Surprised there was such indecision within Erebus about what to do... At least the Championship fight between SVG and Scottie looks tasty with just a few rounds to go.

Steven Richards has almost anonymously gathered an amazing collection of results at Bathurst, and seems a bloody nice guy with it.

A chip of the old block for sure!

Really don't understand why Reynolds didn't pit...

I dunno I thought it was a good race, close between a good five fast cars and if Reynolds did t have his issues we were looking at a great finish.

As for Richards, always been a very good bloke and very solid but he never had the outright pace of the other multiple bathurst winners, a perennial second driver.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there is no chance of that, and I know there are other things he would like to do, as he alluded to after the race.

Maybe when / if he partners Whincup next year he can change Jamie's 'luck' there which has been pretty dismal in recent years.

Great news, shame they will be in a rubbish car.
