I regret to inform you that 1960's South African Formula One driver Ernest Pieterse passed away two years ago. I think it's quite surprising that even the South African motoring world seems to have missed his passing.

Im not surprised at all. He was a private man and theres a LOT of motor racing personalities who are believed alive when in fact i think they're long gone.
Sad news though.
Gergely can you email me when you get a chance?

From his old mechanic, Rob Driver,; Pieterse died 1st November 2017.http://www.oldracing.../Ernie_Pieterse
Thanks also to David Hayhoe and Andre Loubser for their work on this.
Through all this, though, it's been good to discover a non-racing side to Ernie, which was his taxi and logistic business which Ernie started and drove for himself.
