What's the reasoning behind those tires (i.e. small rears and grooved)?

Slightly wider rears would make the cars look even better imo and together with slicks would increase cornering speeds without really compromising the ability to follow closely. Don't see why they wouldn't do that.

They only use one set in all conditions, and they're supposed to be road relevant.

I like the tires. It's like going back to F1 or something in 1967. Nice a low grip so drivers have to work at it.

But also genuinely road relevant. All-weather, normal sized and longer lasting than regular race tires. Michelin have been working on improving performance whilst also intending the lifetime and reducing the weight. Indeed they've shaved off multiple kilos across the whole set since FE began and drivers say the tires are better. I believe they one day aim make a set that will last a whole season without compromising performance. If I walked into a tire shop next week and I was asked if I'd like new Formula E derived Michelins... I'm nearly ashamed to admit I'd probably say "hell yes".

Wow, they really look slow on a circuit

Don’t be fooled by a long camera shot and the lack of noise. Formula One often looks slow to me (even though I know it’s not) I think due to the boring sound of the modern engines and the on-rails handling.

Pretty sure once you get these new FE cars in their natural habitat they are going to look decently quick, particularly in qualifying mode.

I agree. Formula E brings newelty & sci-fi concepts, but has got a very old style racing feel attached to it.

The atmosphere there, between the drivers, is like the old days of F1.
The FE circus is like a big family, were everyone hangs out with anyone.

I love seeing drivers fighting with the steering wheel every turn, sliding, battling close, and Formula E is just like that.
Low grip-road relevant tyres, low aero yet good acceleration & very decent top speed now with Gen 2. I don't need more!

We see today's F1 are planted. They may be the fastest ever F1 cars, but (apart from Monaco), you cannot even feel they're on the limit. On most of the circuits they even look boring, on rails!

If the big manufacturers see this video, I think they'll start to jump ship. And that will be it!

There are a couple of other exceptions as well as Monaco, but yeah it doesn’t really matter if you are doing 220mph when the track is 50m wide with huge run off areas.

It's in the circuits as well. Setting up in the streets and city parks harks back to race tracks with lineage in the 30s and 50s in AVUS, Nepliget Park, Pedrables, Monjuïc, Pau, Macau...

My impressions:

- Cars seem a little more sophisticated in power delivery now, generally
- DS Techeetah sounds like it has some form of traction control going on (I guess illegal, so maybe some engine map for wet conditions?)
- BMW seems powerful and somehow more sophisticated
- NIO a bit clunky?

Of course this could all be irrelevant when it comes to proper street circuits!

Me too

3.13 mark. Came out like a torpedo!
Kinda shows the great acceleration of those cars
