Or he could, you know, demonstrate on his own merit that he would be a worthy champion.
Yeah I mean what kind of driver needs his teammate to back peop... oh wait.

Vettel should quickly get Ricciardo. How long he takes for Bottas will probably be decisive. If Kimi is 2nd he can back him into Vettel and then he can undercut, then Ferrari can do the swap (if Kimi follows it and so the championship would be delayed). Maybe it already works at the start even. And if Kimi also gets past Hamilton at the start he could help Vettel to make the undercut work on him (which would even give them a realistic chance to delay the decision till Sao Paulo). The other scenario would be that Bottas gets Kimi at the start. I doubt that both Ferraris can undercut him in one go, so I assume that they would swap Kimi and Vettel asap, so that he has the chance to get 2nd.
I think the championship wont be decided here.
The thing is that in that way they are consistent though. They followed the precedent case on all those occasions you mentioned. I guess that not slowing down under red flags (with workers on track) is just deemed more dangerous in general. It’s absolutly ridiculous.
They said Bottas and Ocon didn’t affect anybody. So no penalty for them. They used the same argument for Hamilton in Germany.
But I wonder who did Vettel affected Friday ? He didn’t slow down enough but he was very slow anyway and he was not affecting anyone.
It’s just unbelievable.

I guess the Ferrari trick was switched on again then?
Naaa, I just think the lack of running made it a bit of a gamble on who got the setup correct and Ferrari did a better job.

Seb will get Ric off the line and then get Bottas on the straight and be right behind lewis
And in the same fantasy Seb wins the WDC.
I like it.

This might be Kimi's last chance for a race win. I'm sure Lewis would let him through if he goes for it in a aggresive manner, he has also fresher and softer tyres and Ferrari is strong in S1. Hopefully we dont get a Silverstone repeat though xD
Kimi and aggressive start? Maybe in 2003...

Kimi doesnt need to be overly aggressive hes o the far better tyre to get off the line

Yup Kimi doesn't need to overdo it, nor does Lewis. If Kimi launches well and takes the lead, Lewis should just secure P2 at least and then see what happens behind. If Valtteri manages to keep Seb behind, Mercedes have still a better record on executing good strategy calls. Lewis initiates hammer time when it matters --> takes the position back.
Also, Seb will race with desperation so he has to take risks. Anything could happen. Merc is going to try to finish P1 but a P2 won't be a catastrophe. Having said that, Ferrari is Ferrari so they're good at getting victories to slip away from their fingers
It remains to be seen whether the extra one hot lap Lewis had to make with supersofts in Q2 hurts Mercedes and to what degree, if so.

I think the big unknown is tyre deg for Ferrari. They virtually have no data on high fuel. Tyre degradation will decide this race. Saying that it seems the Saturn v rocket is back on that Ferrari.

Ferrari look mega in a straight line here so wouldn’t rule out Vettel and Kimi being a threat on both Mercedes.
Also for all the corner cutting talk Vettel track extends on all the same places Lewis does ...

So.. how many places is Kimi going to lose at the start? My bet is on three.
#923
Posted 21 October 2018 - 11:48
I think there's a good chance of Kimi being P1 into or out of T1. Get on the inside there, avoiding taking a too narrow turn, and you've done it.
He's got the softer tires and that should pay off. I'm also expecting Vettel to pick a position or maybe even two at the lights out.

With that acceleration and those softer compound tyres he should be P1 after T1.

How many places a driver gained (positive) or lost (negative) on the first lap of every race, on average in 2018:
Raikkonen - Average: -1.18, Total: -20

Its Kimi...there is a bigger chance that Ricciardo will get him off the line then Kimi leading after the startWith that acceleration and those softer compound tyres he should be P1 after T1.

That’s a great comparison. I thought Ferrari being strong in S1 meant they were stronger in the fast corners but it’s the other way round. Ferrari have more grunt but If Lewis is first into turn 1 I don’t see how Ferrari can overtake.

Do you really believe that? It's a chance - but I doubt he can sustain a good enough performance in the race to beat Lewis.
The race pace of Lewis and Vettel vs. their Finnish team-mates is a clear step ahead - I don't think a Kimi win is realistic unless Lewis has a problem (even if he gets him at the start).

There's so many things strange about video. Lewis' almost crashing into people, objects. His crazy laugh. Getting the speed wobbles. Interrupting what looked like a serious engineer's meeting/analysis to talk about his speed wobbles with his crazy laugh. Toto fiddling with the toilet with the door open.
WTF was Toto doing with the toilet door open and a female Merc employee standing just outside the toilet. Feeling disturbed.

The P2 he needs? Then he'd be 74 points behind Hamilton with 3 races to go. I think he needs something else.
Of course, but to keep it alive. That'll be his ultimate goal today. Finish P2.
