Great news, I look forward to it.

But have I just been living under a rock, that first link is over six months old, and I have never heard about it until now?  If my experience is anything to go by, the appeal for material has been very muted, not a good omen for its success.

Hi all,

this is unearthing a quite old post, however I finally got around to seeing this film last night (DVD Christmas pressie).  In the early part of last year i was in the process of trying to arrange a screening of it at a local cinema when the shutdown hit, so it's taken a while to view it.

So, what were my thoughts?  Well, there were some very good parts, there were some other parts & contributions that you wish had been expanded somewhat.....and there were some parts & contributions that made you wonder "What the hell was that about & why ?".

I think any of you who have seen it might know which bits I'm talking about (input from an unknown "cultural & social commentator ?  really ?....and the cartoons .....I have nothing more to say about these).

I get that this docco was not designed to be a hero worship outlining his achievements in the way that the McLaren film was, and that it was an attempt to get more of a picture of the man, his life & his effect/guidance on his family, but I certainly feel that it came up short in this respect as well.  I'd have loved to hear even more from Geoff, David & yes Gary as well highlighting their own extremely impressive racing credentials (more film of their racing!) even allowing for growing up under the pressure of their surname.  The interviews could also have been done a great deal better. I feel as though access to resources the likes of Stirling Moss, John Surtees & Jackie Stewart were not expanded on anywhere near enough & too many shots of them staring off into space were included.

Could have done without Ecclestones "contribution" altogether....now & back then.

Luckily the excellent Doug Nye was given an appropriate amount of time & added much needed insightful comments. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it Doug.

Ron Tauranacs contribution was interesting, I don't know if it was the film-makers attempt to create conflict or whether this was actually how it was, but I'd never heard any reports in the past of Brabham ever claiming any of Rons work or ideas to be his own.

Even the final part of the film focussing on Davids determination in re-claiming of the Brabham name & development of the amazing BT62 seemed to be incomplete & rushed.

All in all, I felt it was worth seeing, but left me feeling wanting a whole heap more regarding the racing, the Brabham/Tauranac partnership & the Brabham family life, and a whole lot less of the arty cartoons & idiotic social commentators.

cheers

Mal.

Hmm - I have never actually seen the finished piece so can't really comment. I work with David quite often - a real chip off the old block, I am happy to say.

Speaking of David... I've just read that a BT62 has been entered for this season's GT Cup Championship - assuming the series can take place.

(It's an SB Race Engineering entry for Paul Bailey and Ross Wylie.)

For anyone in the UK with access to the London Live TV channel, this is being shown tonight at 9pm.

As it's broadcast FTA, anyone outside its theoretical broadcast footprint who has a Sky installation can add the channel using the instructions here: https://www.mediamol...eup_441852.html

The same channel frequency numbers should also work for Freesat: https://xtrium.com/h...els-on-freesat/

Repeated 12.15pm on March 5th and 11.15pm on March 7th.
