World Challenge GT (i.e. GT3) will no longer be called the PWC. From now on it's the Blancpain GT World Challenge America (World Challenge Europe is the new name for Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup; World Challenge Asia is the new name for Blancpain GT Series Asia).

However, Pirelli will remain title sponsor of the GT4 series, so the series formerly known as Pirelli World Challenge GTS will now be called Pirelli GT4 America.

Atlast it should stop me getting confused what PriceWaterhouseCoopers is doing at Mazda Weathertech Raceway.

I’m confused ..
Jp

It couldn't possibly get more confusing than last year's GT, GTA, GTS Sprint, GTS SprintX, TC, TCA, TCR, ETC... all called PWC.

Can't find times from today's session yet, but Motorsport.com have an article noting that Mazdas went 1-3, split by the WTR Caddy. The Action Express cars were 4-5, Penske was 8th and 10th.

Among the items seen this morning in my internet roundup of the news, the film of "Ford v. Ferrari" is set to be released in the U.S. June 28.  Christian Bale stars as Ken Miles and Matt Damon plays Carroll Shelby.

It would be interesting to see some shots from the movie--my first thought, given how makeup artists made Bale disappear into his recent role as Dick Cheney, is if they'll make similar efforts to recreate Miles's nose.  ;)

Bale was brilliant as Dick.
What a despicable human being that man is.

Anyone seen the Ozark series on Netflix?.
Wow... really despicable characters..

They should've gone with Clive Owen, the man's basically a lookalike of Shelby. But.. maybe they picked the actor with the most convincing accent?

Booking tickets to fly down for Sebring! Woohoo. The draw of the WEC race and the 12 hours on consecutive days is too much for me to miss. Plus I need to see/hear the 911 RSRs in person before everything gets electrified/turboized in the coming years.

Now debating whether we camp that Friday night or do the decent thing and find a hotel within an hour of the track.

There was a Comfort Inn or something to stay at in Bartow that I crashed at the last few times I worked the race. It was right next to either a Dollar Tree or Dollar General. Cozy little place, kind of a commute to the track, but that’s Sebring.

And if you haven’t before, be sure to walk through Green Park with someone you know.

Been a few times and this is always a highlight around sunset on Saturday! Was quite a shock as a 13 year old attending my first endurance race back in '99, though.

Short answer: Really, really, really drunk people cruising around in pickup trucks. Think a mardi gras parade sort of atmosphere, except they're doing this for almost an entire week while camping. The public bathrooms in Green Park are a literal shitshow by the end of the race.

Some sights and sounds from Green Park over the years–the first picture is the sign posted on the entrance:

sebring-meter.jpg

The giant Will Power double-birdie sticker on the inside lid of a portaloo toilet was the ultimate example of life at Sebring, but there was no real way to get a non-NSFW picture of that at the time.

Don't miss the annual furniture bonfire or the RV horn-blowing contest that seems to happen there every year. A friend who's been a corner marshal there for 30+ years or so says that back in the day it was much worse–some of the campers would dig muddy potholes in the road to trap cars that weren't paying attention. If the drivers were individuals of the feminine persuasion, the 'rescuers' would require certain favours in exchange for freeing them–or in one case, duct-tape them into their car until they agreed. This all happened while a yearly public orgy was going on somewhere else in Green Park, typically. If this particular friend is to be believed, all of this was only possible because, back then, "There was only one cop–and his name was Phil."

Sebring...

I've had my tickets booked to FL for Sebring for months, but my buddy and I finally are just starting to look for a hotel or AirBnB to stay at the night between the WEC race and the 12 hr, looks like we waited too long. Almost everything remotely close is booked. We'll be driving up from Miami and we're trying to avoid driving up and back on 2 consecutive days... maybe we should just camp? Thoughts?

I have no Sebring experience, unfortunately so I can't help. Florida weather may make camping a little soggy, however. You might figure out a time duration you're willing to drive from the track and the look at options within that radius.

I don't know what your price range is, but I stayed in Lakeland a few times while working the race. It's 1.5 hours from the track, so definitely better than the trek you'll have to make from Miami. Bartow and Winter Haven are other options, but I think most hotels you'd want to stay in there are probably booked by now.

EDIT: Just saw that you said you're headed up from Miami. I have never camped at Sebring, but I'd say you definitely want to be careful in which part of the track you pitch a tent. I suppose it's up to the standard of accommodations you want between races. The drive to Lakeland isn't too bad, but there's not much sense in heading north if you're based south just an hour farther.

Speaking of coverage, it looks like all the World Challenge races will be live streamed on SRO's Youtube channel (GTWorld aka gt1world). Live streams have already been scheduled for GT3 & GT4 qualifying + races and TC + TCR races.

For future reference - a friend of mine just got back from a seven day golf outing in Sebring with about 25 others. They all stayed at Inn on the Lakes and Kip had nothing but good things to say about it. A gallery of Sebring racers is in the restaurant/bar that is named Chicanes.

Red flag for Tecpro barrier repairs. Ryan Dalziel says David Askew is okay. I think he lost it in Turn 5 Turn 3, actually, and ended up in the barriers on drivers' left.
