I've had my tickets booked to FL for Sebring for months, but my buddy and I finally are just starting to look for a hotel or AirBnB to stay at the night between the WEC race and the 12 hr, looks like we waited too long. Almost everything remotely close is booked. We'll be driving up from Miami and we're trying to avoid driving up and back on 2 consecutive days... maybe we should just camp? Thoughts?
I don't know what your price range is, but I stayed in Lakeland a few times while working the race. It's 1.5 hours from the track, so definitely better than the trek you'll have to make from Miami. Bartow and Winter Haven are other options, but I think most hotels you'd want to stay in there are probably booked by now.
EDIT: Just saw that you said you're headed up from Miami. I have never camped at Sebring, but I'd say you definitely want to be careful in which part of the track you pitch a tent.
I suppose it's up to the standard of accommodations you want between races. The drive to Lakeland isn't too bad, but there's not much sense in heading north if you're based south just an hour farther.
