I read this article and I tend to disagree with their assertion that Colin McRae Rally offer a more "Authentic Rally Experience" than Mobil 1 Rally Championship. Here's why. For one thing, the stages in CMR are too short, the longest may last 5 minutes. But, in RC stages usually last 20-30 minutes. Secondly, the damage that occurs in RC is more realistic. That is, the damage effects handling, engine, and gearbox performance. Also, in RC, tirewear is a factor.
Don't get me wrong, I still love CMR. But, I play CMR more for fun, and play RC more for a challenge.
Does anyone else have an opinion about this article, or these two games in general?

Colin McRae Rally vs. Mobil 1 Rally Championship.

20-30 minutes per stage? Most of the ones I drive are in the 9-15 minute bracket. Maybe that's why I always run out of time repairing stuff
I never really got into CMR. However, I just played Mobil quite extensively over the last two weeks and, gorgeous as it looks, the gameplay really isn't there for me. The roads are too narrow, the contact physics are crap (stopping dead when you hit a log at an angle), and the damage is a bit toooo realistic. I also don't like the little 'tricks' like haze blinding you, or a road that's so dark you can't see where you're going, or a rock that's camouflaged so you hit it the first time. Decent racing games don't need these arcadey features. It made for a reasonably fresh and different simracing experience, but I've already uninstalled it. GPL still takes pride of place on my hard drive.

I agree with Rich, the gameplay in Mobil is really bad and I don´t like the physics of the car at all. The problem with the damage is too big, you really have to be very good to finish a rally in simulation mode, specially with those tiny roads.
I´m really looking forward to CMR 2. It should be the greatest rally game ever.

Actually, I haven't played RC2000 in such a while that I don't remember how long the stage times were. I've been playing GP2 a lot lately. But, I'm borrowing my brother's G400 video card, so maybe I'll give GPL another spin...
