Season might be over, but the racing continues (for 2 days). And you get a glimpse of new drivers and those who transferred to new teams!

What:

Post season testing at Abu Dhabi.

When:

Tuesday 27 November and Wednesday 28 November.

Why:

Teams will test Pirelli’s new range of tyres for the 2019 F1 season. It comes at a sensitive time as drivers and teams have questioned whether the sport did the right thing by asking Pirelli to produce tyres which degraded more quickly. This was done through the ‘target letter’ given to Pirelli which sets down the desired tyre performance characteristics.

Who:

Mercedes: Bottas - Hamilton
Ferrari: Leclerc - Vettel
Red Bull: Verstappen - Gasly
Renault: Hulkenberg - Markelov
Haas: Deletraz - Fittipaldi
Racing Point: Perez - Stroll
Sauber: Raikkonen - Giovinazzi
McLaren: Sainz - Norris
Toro Rosso: Kvyat - Gelael
Williams: Kubica - Russell

Warning:
As with every test, people try to claim a certain driver is 'faster' by looking at the leaderboard. While we all know this is nonsense, it will probably still be mentioned...

Here feeling that 2019 will be a tough interesting season, lots of failures both technically skill-wise, lots of dramas.

Guessing that Racing Point will be getting lots of attention with the new driver.

Cannot imagine Perez being evenly matched, but we will see.

Personally I look forward to feel a bit of team intern competitions at Ferrari, RP, Williams in the order that I named.

What will Red Bull do in terms of PU? Honda will be way too early, but the season is already over... guess go testing with Renault, but should it be relevant?

So Mercedes ran this weekend with an set of sensors on the car to then allow it to use those sensors during the tyre test. Clever. But if I were the FIA I'd have them removed.

Why? It was really clever on their part. Maybe Ferrari will use their hybrid 2018/19 front wing which they tried in FP1

Any idea why they're running a Merc V8 rather than a Renault hybrid?

These demo cars are usually a couple of years old and it's not feasible to swap the engine.

Sensor trick could give Mercedes edge in F1 tyre test

You had to race it to use it in the test, I think.

I think the exact wording is that no "new" parts can be tested, so what constitutes a "new" part is (as always) up to interpretation :rotfl:

I would have loved to see Jimmie Johnson go out with the Honda engine and..................................................stop the car, please.

I think it's more that any parts used have to have been raced, rather than simply "new" parts not being allowed. Might not be groundbreaking data they gather but any new data gained whilst your rivals miss out is valuable.

FIA making them remove the sensors would be ridiculous as it complies with the their own rules. F1 is always about interpreting the rules in your favour. Surprised it wasn't the likes of Red Bull that thought to do this to be honest.

if you beleive Merc had tyre problems under 2019 with special tyres and special wheels you might have to rethink  some..

I like Mercedes. Doesn't mean I can't think this is against the spirit of the rules. The FIA issues clarifications all the time. This should be one such time.

You can think it's against the spirit of the rules, doesn't mean it is or that there is any tangible rules broken. Seems a rather obvious loophole Mercedes have spotted, surprised no one else has, they must have been sleeping. Besides, I don't see how FIA can't easily issue a clarification on this one without opening a massive can worms on what teams can or cannot run.

And they are about as far away in skill as their most famous namesakes as well, towards each other!

I think Gelael's cash probably pays for the whole test for Toro Rosso!

Second red flag in first day #AbuDhabiTest after Vettel spun and hit the wall at T1. With the Ferrari car back to garage, the marshals are repairing the barrier now

Well, its nonsense and all, but:
.
"George Russell ya es más rápido que Stroll y Sirotkin en los Libres 1, 2 y 3 del GP de Abu Dabi. Está a 1,3 segundos del registro de clasificación, que se disputó al anochecer (pista más fría, más rápida)."
.
En: Russel is already faster than Stroll and Sirotkin in FP 1, 2 and 3. He is 1.3 slower than quali, that is by night, with a colder ground.

Here’s who’s driving today:

Mercedes: Valtteri Bottas
Ferrari: Sebastian Vettel
Red Bull: Max Verstappen
Force India: Sergio Perez / Lance Stroll
Renault: Nico Hulkenberg
Toro Rosso: Sean Galael
Haas: Pietro Fittipaldi
McLaren: Lando Norris

Williams: George Russell / Robert Kubica
Sauber: Kimi Raikkonen

A reminder: no 2019 components can be used during the test. Only raced 2018 stuff.

Kimi's good friend Toni Vilander said that Kimi and Sauber have focused on Steering wheel setups and Kimi has given his ideas where he prefers buttons are located etc. Kimi said to Toni, that the steering is too light at the moment.
