Really, I´ve been playing for a week now and I´ve won every single race except the endurance ones. Even if you play with a less powerfull car you can win very easily.
Actually the only race I found hard to win was the Pikes Peak.

What do you think?

I played it for a few days and completed 15% already.

Hmmm....you might be right.

This was the one complaint I had about the original game and they never addressed it. It's just too damn easy to win cash and get/upgrade the cars. So you may find a really hard race where you're getting your butt kicked, then you go and win an easier race and get lots of cash, upgrade your car and now you can win that other race easily. And what's lame is that often you don't even get a chance to race - you're either way behind or way ahead. I wish there was an "entry list" like in the first game, because I used to try and tailor my cars to the other entrants just so I'd have a close and challenging race.

Another example - in the special events section I think it's the Grand Touring Cars Cup. You can win the first race easily with a half-decent car no problem. And then you get as a prize this souped-up Nissan, which just destroys everyone in the second and third races, and in the third race you win the racing version of the NSX which destroys everyone in the next cup, etc. Want easy money? Just go win 4 or 5 NSX's and you've got a quick million!

I really think they could have done alot more playtesting with the simulation mode and done something to actually make you work hard to progress through the races, rather than just having oodles of cash. The only difficult thing is spending it on the right car that just falls under the HP limit.

Have you tried racing with a rally car on a road race? You can 700 HP race car with a 300HP Lancia.

Eli,

I know what you mean. But, here's an exception. The Trial Mountain Endurance event is suppose to be limited to cars under 295 HP. But, due to a glitch, I noticed a Vector M12 LM (679 HP) sometimes appears. Anyone else notice this? I finally beat the Vector using a race modified Concept car, but it was close the whole race, until the end. The stupid computer controlled Vector pitted one lap from the finish. But, it was still very fun.

Let me tell you the main problem with the "racing" on GT2. The problem is that there is a boost built in, that you can not turn off or on.
The other day I was racing my Escudo at Red Rock (just to earn credits i might add). I stayed just enough in the lead to watch the second place car (a GT40) cross the finish line in 5 min 44 sec. I then went back to the same race and ran in last place, (on purpose, I'm not that slow) and watched a GT40 win that race in 6 min 8 sec. If 24 seconds in a five lap race isn't a boost built in I don't know what is..
Don't get me wrong, I think the car handling is exquisite, but this makes for the so called "racing" to be kind of lame.

13psi, I know exactly what you're saying. I did a race in Seattle once(3 laps) and stayed behind a Viper fro the first two laps. I passed the Viper right over the start/finish line at the start of the last lap, and our lap time was a 1:35. I did my last lpa flat out and managed a 1:28, with the Viper 2 SECONDS behind!! Do the math and this is something I find extremley annoying. There should be a feature that allows you to adjust the competition's strength. This is also the reason you guys should check out http://www.geocities.../GT2_Index.html

Or, check out the little competition Jayway has going on this board (GT2 Competition [Rallying]).

Apart from the rallying (which i think has SHOCKING handling of understeer then sudden snap oversteer... not realistic at all) i find the rest of the races realllllly easy. Most of the problems have been put forward and yes they would be solved by a "percentage" adjustment of the difficulty as in Indaycar racing II for the PC.

I find there is very little "racing" going on and i am just playing to see what cars i can collect.

If you want easy credits... win the "red rock" race in GT all stars in special events and you win $50K plus a "speed 12" which is worth $500,000.... so you can win 1.1 million credits in 12 minutes.

it's a shame because i just love the cars and the handling and the sound but the racing just isn't there...... it severly needs something so we can whack up the difficulty.

You see, this is what Im getting at. Gran Turismo 2 isnt as brilliant as it should have been. The rally option is blown away by Colin Mcrae Rally by a million miles. The visuals are very good, the graphics as always, brilliant, but for a true racing fan, like me, its not really my kind of game. For those of you who love Simulators, like me, go for TOCA2 or possibly even Porsche Challenge. I am going to buy Porsche Challenge, because its such a brilliant game which if you play once a week like i do with my games you never get sick of it.
