However, it is (apparently) very straightforward to simply make everything up.

There is a product! It's just that the distribution has been minimal at best.

By most accounts who have tasted it the product is somewhere between 'ok' and 'quite nice' and stolen logo or not the cans do actually look pretty good.. so with a coherent distribution strategy maybe it had potential.

That is what's so amazing about this saga. A successful brand roll-out leveraged by Formula 1 sponsorship and social media blast is possible. It would be novel, but not crazy. We live in a world in which this kind of strategy can be effective, but only if there is a legitimate distribution set up in place with plenty of money to support the roll out. We see a version of it with technology and dot-com start ups in which the product doesn't need to make money for years as long as market share is being continually expanded so that the profits seem likely. For instance, Uber has yet to make a profit, yet went public at something like a $90 million valuation after being supported by venture capitalists for many years. The reality for Uber profitability is to operate autonomous vehicles to eliminate the cost of drivers. Less clear for something like a drink start up, it has to show more clear path to profits after the expensive roll-out phase. But, it's not the realm of impossibility.

But, this wan't that, was it?

I mistakenly liked your post.

Tell me again how Gene's past HAS ANYTHING TO DO with RE? That may be the weakest thing I've read in this thread.

He's saying Haas' conviction in the US will impact his reputation more than this saga.

Well, you're mentioning both entities in the same sentence right there, so there's a connection.

As well as him being where the buck stops in relation to any business or company which bears his Haas name.

I would very much imagine that Gene is not liking like any of this, but because of this RE fiasco his past is being brought up as old coals are raked over.

Can you please read the quote I am answering to instead of just reading my post and take it out of context.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but if that new Lightning Volt Energy twitter page is actually real and not a parody:

https://twitter.com/LightningVoltF1

then the logo is being stolen from the Black & Yellow Coffee bar:

Even if not getting one dime, Whyte for sure is the BIG PR winner in all of this. I think their received PR value is far more then their legal costs.

LV's energy drink slogan is "Feel the Voltage?"

Sounds more like they make electric chairs (for capital punishment).

I'm not sure I want to buy anything where I will "Feel the Voltage!"

I'm assuming that the (multiple) Lightning Volt accounts are spoofs.

If there is still a drink, it'll be called Rich Energy.

I reckon.

Who fancies a row with Steven Seagal?

Steven Seagal's Lightning Bolt is a brand of energy drink that is produced by Steven Seagal Enterprises. The soft drink was introduced in July 2005 by independent distributors and is promoted by action movie star Steven Seagal. Each can bears a picture of Steven Seagal and the character known as "CHI", which stands for power, and energy in many Asian languages and cultures. The beverage is billed as the "first energy drink to be made of 100% juice.", and also claims to be the first energy drink to contain Tibetan Goji Berries and Asian Cordyceps (said to be one of the most rare and treasured herbs used in Chinese and Tibetan medicine; Seagal discovered the benefits of Cordyceps while researching immune builders in Asia). It is available in over 60 countries, including Wales and Zambia.

Me too. I think Lightning Volt is just a generic temporary name for a failed company that is waiting to be closed off. BDG renames every company that they finish off.

The new Rich Energy Limited is the interesting one. Neville Weston and the other investors wanted to keep sponsoring Haas for some reason. Is this new company for that? Is it still going to sell the drink or something else? What is Storey going to do? Does he still have RE web site and Twitter? Good times.

Are all energy drink vendors equally inept?  And we thought it was only Storey and Rich Energy.  If Wales and Zambia are the stand-out countries of the 60 where Seagal's goop is available, I can only presume the other 58 must include all the most insignificant states of the world.

I was always a bit surprised that Parfitt was involved with a company like RE, he seems like a decent guy, this proves it... very cleverly done.

EDIT: I guess the stickers weren't that difficult to change really either... :p

The quotes attributed to Weston are a week old, from an interview done at Silverstone.

Not sure if Cooper interviewed him.

Dieter Rencken of Racefans.net wrote in his Grand Prix Diary that he'd been offered a chat with Neville Weston. Presumably other journalists were given the same opportunity, so it's possible that Adam Cooper was one of those journalists.

"I've just realised the guy has never taken a jab at Monster energy drink, considering they sponsor Mercedes as well as Hamilton personally, both of which do a heck of a lot more winning than both Haas and Red bull. Surely they are the world's leading energy drink?"

Here we go :)

With all the turmoil presently ongoing, we should not disregard Storey's social media expertise, and ensure the premium brand remains properly represented.

PS: In true Storey tradition, I had to bring my own can - which must have skyrocketed in collectors' value in the few days since this premium marketing exercise was recorded for eternity.

Just to make it even better, it was almost 90 Billion, not million for the valuation.  Darn B's and M's, they can be most troublesome.

Sorry, but it doesn't work like that. You can only see that people viewing Storeys profile have also viewed Steven Weston's, Zak Brown's and David Cameron's profiles.

Of course you can't see who has searched for Storeys profile. That would be a major breach of privacy.

From the Cooper story...

anyone who looked into the background of Rich Energy and Storey when they first appeared on the F1 radar last year knew there were questions to be asked, especially given the apparent lack of assets attributed to Rich Energy UK in official documents.

So why didn't anybody ask them?  There was obviously a half-arsed enquiry of Haas, who said that they had done due diligence, but nobody asked what that due diligence was, e.g. had anybody bothered to use google.   Haas hadn't asked the questions, and journalists hadn't either.
