Amazing how much more the halo's keep integrating into the chassis, like they promised.

Right?

F1 always over promises and under delivers, with everything. They always tell us that in a few years time it will all be great but it always turns out to be even worse than it was before but still many people including the press fall for it every single time.

Maybe it's a lesson for a lot of people for 2021 because those cars will look nothing like what they've shown so far.

Probably a stupid question, but is that the 2019 car? To me, it looks identical to the 2018 car? Maybe it’s because the livery is near indifferent..

When someone tells you that in a few years time things will be better, what they generally mean is that in a few years time, 20% of people will have forgotten what was better before, 20% of people will have left the sport and found a new hobby, 50% of people will have accepted it is what it is and only 10% of the people are still actively complaining, allowing them to claim that those people are just a tiny minority who arent happy with the changes...!

All presentations up until now use a very dark background to get rid of the halo. It will stick out again in winter testing and beyond.

The new Renault looks just like last year's. Too much black and not enough yellow. I much preferred what they had back in 2016, when it was almost all yellow.

It is the 2018 car with the 2019 livery (I think)

I like the Williams... I think? It's not really striking enough to evoke much emotion.

I guess since Halo they thought they might as well save on the aesthetics part...

At this rate we will all be underwhelmed and have seriously the worst livery line up since the age of dawn.

Right, who cares if the STR and Renault liveries are great* - we need new stuff every year! No, that will get old too, let's have them change the livery for each race. Won't that be exciting?

*(it's not just my opinion, last year they were leading pretty much every "best livery" fan voting I've seen)

The two best liveries we've seen this year so far, easily, are the two where they haven't changed from last year. Change isn't always good!

Because people get used to things rather quickly, and it is in the interest of the sponsors to remain noteworthy.

The livery itself may be fine, but if it becomes a blur it's no longer doing what it's supposed to; to draw attention to the sponsors.

Indeed. It's hard to build up a brand identity if you change it every 12 months for no reason. There's a very good reason why Gulf, Rothmans, JPS, Martini and Marlboro colours became so iconic in motor racing and it wasn't because they changed their design every five minutes.

Right?

Meanwhile in Formula E, you can clearly identify the drivers helmets and it practically melts into the flow of the bodywork.

Hopefully the FIA can mandate something better into the 2021 regs but I'm not holding my breath.

They using more bare carbon fibre and less paint to save weight, so we end up with darker liveries.

Racing Point does their event at 3:00 PM UK time, it's supposed to be streamed. Haven't seen any times for the other two.

Thanks. For Mercedes, it's going to be a shakedown in Silverstone and I think those happened rather early in the past, before lunch IIRC.

BWT still title sponsor?

This is nothing. In 1988, Tyrrell, AGS, Osella, Minardi and Larrousse were all either black or very dark blue. Conversely, almost every team on the grid in 1982 except for Ferrari and Lotus had white as either a primary or secondary color.

In the old days, the form and look of the car would usually dramatically alter once every two or three seasons, so much that one specific livery would "offer" change much. Just look at the Rothmans one by Williams. And just look at how much it has changed from 1994 till 1997. Not much right? Now look at the cars. They changed a lot. And therefore the same livery looked new every year.
Nowadays the cars are sterile in changes. Aside from the Halo, we haven't seen much change in the way the cars look. And until 2021 we will not see much change of this. That is why slapping the same livery on the same car makes it dull after just a season. Ferrari got this right and experimented with white and grey in their previous liveries. I don't say that liveries must be completely overhauled. But a good change would be appreciated. Sticking with the same livery is dull and is a tad lazy. Williams and Mercedes have been King and queen in this turbo charged era in retaining the same livery. I would have loved them to see them spice up things a bit in their livery.

Well each to their own. Personally if I like or love a livery I hope the team stick with it (general concept) for as long as they can, whereas where I don't like it I can only hope they change it as soon as possible. Let's just say I'd be perfectly happy with Toro Rosso and Renault sticking to their general livery concepts for the next decade, whereas Williams may change theirs before Barcelona pre-season testing as far as I am concerned.

No chance. You're thinking "F1 Glamour", but that's way back in time. Nowadays we're "F1 Corporate".

Indeed, but before that it was already set for some years. And so now too.

Anywho, to make my point complete: I love the new Mercedes livery. It is recognisable, sticks close to its livery, but has good changes. Something I love to see. Something they havent done in a while. I dont need a full on livery overhaul to be pleased. But a change like Mercedes' is good enough to spice things up for me.

Ooh look, how striking. But it's a "special edition" livery, just for the launch. What's the point?

II have to say that as a team that sets great store in being groovy, RB is almost universally boring. Haas and Williams are more interesting, and that saying something.

Agreed, completely fail to see the point of the launch livery. They always look awesome, then they immediately go back to old faithful. For a team which has the corporate setup to allow marketing flex, it just seems incongruent.

Haas and Williams launched last years cars with a new livery, Red Bull the 2019 car with a test livery. I find the latter far more interesting and still have something to look out for come testdays when they will launch the definitive livery for 2019. Not a bad marketing strategy if you ask me.

Mercedes and Redbull not messing around with renders, instead launching the 'real car' and doing the shakedown on the same day. Shows how methodical and better prepared top teams are. The likes of Renault, Williams and Haas didn't even have a real car at their disposal at the time of launch.

Yep, they could have probably 'launched' at the end of last year if this is what a 'launch' is all about.

Launch livery is odd, I dont mind cool test liveries but this is a bit off.. I do not get it on RB.. doesn't seem to connect to anything or cool..  Newey all his air ducting from bodywork..  curious to see if helps them any..

Perhaps a silly question.... but anyway;

See the livery like the Alfa one used today? As it’s a one-off, how exactly do they go about removing it and repainting? It’s awfully intricate to run for a couple hours... seems a bit of a waste doesn’t it. But how do they get it all back off and repaint? I assume they paint all the bits individually so do they have to strip the entire car down to remove it and put the proper colours back on?
