Nice looking cars there. The BMWs look the part. 4-door saloons always look better on the racetrack than 3-door hatchbacks.

As mentioned yesterday, it's the official launch of the season - Media Day - today. Taking place at Brands Hatch, rather than the traditional Donington, but there's the usual grid shots we've come to expect...

Some great liveries this year - the Subaru looking nice in a slightly revised scheme:

I like Blundell's HP sponsored car too:

Aiden Moffat's livery for this year:

D1s72v7WoAEEn4Y.jpg

Sam Osbourne's livery is a nice throwback to the X-Power MGs of the early 2000s - just needs some sponsorship from Hot Wheels to complete the look!

It may only be a tracking shot, but Ingram and Turkington are already trading paint. Odds on them being four-wide into Paddock Hill on the first lap next weekend? :D

Lots of white and blue this year. All looking quite good though.

I despise these series that can attract a full grid of competitive entries.  Don't they know that quantity isn't quality?  Next thing you know, they will be letting ceral brands and pasty maker sponsor the cars. ;)

Had a cracking day at Brands yesterday, the new format worked a treat with 6hrs of track time and not a single red flag all day, tho i personal wish they had stayed at Donington but used the new format.

Anyway from trackside, the new BMW looked stunning, so controlled, driveable and predictable and to be able to do the times they are doing already shows how how good a job they have done.

The Toyota looked fast, but a real handful, the rear end looked so light and the car was almost in a drift most of the time.

Anyhow, here's my vid of the days action if anyone interested:

Other than the reworked front grill on the BMW range which I can't get used to, it's probably the best looking car out there. Better for brand appeal than the old 1 series, and I say that as the owner of an M140i (well, until it was stolen last month...)

All good, except for even more drivers using 3 digit numbers this year - something which should be deplored

Some nice photos of yesterday from www.touringcartimes.com

Sam Tordoff was fastest in both practice sessions - which should give a good indication for qualifying for race one, given it's the only time the cars are running without ballast.

All good, except for even more drivers using 3 digit numbers this year - something which should be deplored

It reminds me of Brisca F1 - I'm sure pretty much everyone in that runs with a three digit number. Hopefully driving standards won't be similar!

Not to detract from WSR's efforts (they are my local team after all!) but turning out a 3-series race-car is pretty much a by-the-numbers job.  There can't be a car that has been more developed for the track over the years.  I wonder how much technical help they get from the factory?

Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing it race.  I was never completely comfortable with a hatchback BMW race-car.

1st World problems     :)

Sam will surely be in the Championship hunt this year along with Colin & Ash and hopefully Ingram.

Musical chairs: Mike Bushell has dropped down to the Clio Cup again, freeing his Team HARD seat for Jack Goff to return to the series after all.

Bushell has tweeted that he is stepping away from racing. It must have been a very tough break for a driver who has struggled more than once to secure a BTCC drive.

So, the season gets underway in just a few days' time! Anyone lucky enough to be heading to Brands next weekend?

I'm sure we're in for yet another fiercely close and competitive season. Turkington, Ingram and Sutton must start as favourites for the championship again - and it'd be great to see Ingram finally take that first title. But Cammish could be the dark horse, now he's got a year of touring car racing experience, and hopefully the likes of Josh Cook, Senna Proctor and Jack Goff can continue to improve.

I know I'm biased, but I really do believe we're currently enjoying a modern day golden-era for the series. A healthy grid with a good number of manufacturers, and an ever increasing number of drivers who can win on merit - not forgetting it's one of only two series you can still watch live on freeview television!

Let's go racing!

I say this before pretty much every BTCC season. Can it really be as good as the one before?

I don't see how 2019 can be better than 2018 but this is the BTCC and it always produces something special and spectacular. :)

What I said a few months ago.

Hoping for a continuation of the chaos and another close championship.

It all gets underway today with practice very soon and qualifying at 15:05.

How many cars will be within 0.1 of pole position? Probably too many!

Andrew Jordan was fastest in first practice, leading four Honda - Tordoff, Cammish, Neal and Smiley. 6 Hondas in the top 8! http://www.btcc.net/...-honda-quartet/

Second practice is currently underway, with Tom Oliphant leading one Jason Plato (remember that guy? ;) ) and Ollie Jackson. As F1paul mentioned, qualifying is on at 15:05, and it looks like you'll still be able to watch it live online here: https://www.itv.com/btcc

Schedule for all the weekend's action is here: https://www.tsl-timi...2019/191403.pdf

The three touring car races are timetabled for 11:30, 14:15 and 17:05, but obviously dependent on any delays/red flag stoppages.

The BBC weather forecast shows a mixed picture for tomorrow, showing light rain in time for the second race - but then again, it is April in the UK, so it's to be expected I suppose! Wasn't it round one last year when we got that crazy mixed up podium after a wet/dry race? :D

Qualifying gets underway in a few minutes - unfortunately I won't be able to follow along this time, so keep me posted!

Tom Oliphant fastest in FP2, and the three new BMWs looking very strong. The best non BMW was Plato in fourth, 0.4 of a second back - a big margin on a track as short as Brands Indy.

Qualy is delayed due to some Ginettas in the gravel or something.

Quality isn't great though.

Red Flag - Ollie Jackson off at the final corner.

Oli the Oliphant is fastest at the moment.

Off goes Tordoff now. Red Flag.

Sutton fastest by a massive 3 tenths (which is a big margin around the very short Brands Hatch Indy circuit)

Could that have been a technical issue for Tordoff? He was nowhere close to making the corner.

Well, seemingly not given that he returned to the pits. A little worrying for the field that the new BMW should be this quick this quickly.

Did we all write Plato off too soon after the last couple of years? Maybe RWD just wasn't for him.

So, a Sutton Plato front row - no chance of any issues at the first corner then...

The only problem with Plato doing well again is that he'll never shut up about it. :p

I'll confess, I think PMR has made a mistake in replacing the young duo of Proctor/Cook with the definitely-not-young-at-all duo of Plato/Collard, but it's a good thing for the series to have Plato near the sharp end again.

My other observation is that Motorbase could be in for a tough year. It seems to me they've only really got one car in play - Chilton. With respect to Hamilton and Jackson (they should have brought back the other one, imo), I can't see them being a factor. But then again, it's a long season...

BMWs and Dynamics Hondas ominously placed for tomorrow. Should be a fascinating day of racing.

Nope, it's still on ITV4. Not sure where you're looking, but the Radio Times website shows that coverage starts from 10:15am:

There's low fog shrouding the circuit at the moment, so the schedule is subject to change, but here it is:

Race 1: 11:30
Race 2: 14:15
Race 3: 17:05

Porsches, Clios, Ginetta GT4s, Ginetta Juniors and British F4 to fill in the gaps.

I'd like to see Lewis do a part time BTCC season on his off-weekends from F1, just for a laugh.

Tim Harvey getting technical there. When he said "low CD", he's talking about drag coefficient.

Tim Harvey just confirming that a lot of drivers on slicks at the back of the grid. This could be interesting.
