So apparently Lewis Hamilton has been at the track today, according to Chilton. Wonder what he's made to that type of racing.

I bought a ticket for Thruxton last year but didn’t make it due to other commitments; hopefully I’ll be able to make it to one of the two rounds this year!

Yeah. While he didn’t speak to ITV, the TV cameras did pick him up in the garage visiting Motorbase and Nick.

Standard Matt Neal, moaning about Chilton’s pass on him; not like he’s ever done that to anyone else over the last 25 years.

I'm hoping to get to Donington in a few weeks - hopefully the weather will be better than last time I went, when I spent the whole day just trying to stay warm!

Thanks for the company everyone - enjoyed that. The BTCC is back!

Catch some of you later for the IndyCar race.

I rate Butcher, I think he can win this year.

Butcher has been promoted to the race win! Chilton drops back to second after receiving a five-second penalty for contact with Neal.

Harsh penalty I think, and never nice to see a race result changed after the cameras have been packed up.

Good days racing though. Next stop Indycar!!

That’s a ridiculous penalty, especially given that it was Matt Neal, who always passes like that.

Surprised at that - it didn't look like massive contact from the angle that was shown on TV, but presumably must have been for that decision.

I wonder if Alan Gow will appear on TV to talk about that call as it has caused a lot of moans on facebook

Caught  some of it earlier. Absolutley staggered by the number of cars on the grid.

Just wish they'd do away with the silly spoilers and Max Power body kits. Otherwise, good stuff. Something I havent said of BTCC in years.

Some great action today. A strange day, the top 6 in the championship is not the six I expected at all. In fact probably only 1 or 2 of them I would have chosen before today would be in the top 6.

Will we see a return to form at Donnington with the "big names?" I think so as the ballast plays a big part at Donnington so the bigger names down the order in the championship should do well.

This. Why give a penalty to Chilton when others (including Neal himself) have done it and got away with it before.

Much worse has happened without a penalty.

Because it's a new rule/regime for this year. It's why Jelley knew to give the placce back.

To be fair, it’s good that driving standards are being looked at properly in BTCC.

The only issue I see with it is that if it's a marginal incident (or one that's not immediately clear) and the driver and team both feel that the move was okay, they then get hit with quite a harsh penalty afterwards, which from the outside can appear confusing to fans. Hopefully the series has some means of explaining or showing why a penalty has been handed out, like other series and sports do.

I mean, yes, we don't want to see guys getting punted out of the lead, but equally we don't want to dissuade drivers from having a go either. And I'd rather see things sorted out during or immediately after a race if possible, and not several hours later when everyone's gone home.

I have no problem with the penalty, driving standards in the BTCC need to improve and Steven Jelley proved the drivers can adhere to the rules by giving the place back, I just hope the stewards are consistent and punish people like Matt Neal who have made a living out of rough driving. The standards throughout the TOCA package have declined to such an extent even the F4 drivers think its OK to barge each other out of the way now.

Tom Chilton didn't help himself by saying on TV he learnt that move from Matt Neal when they were team mates years ago.

Apart from that the races were good and no safety car was required in any of the races which is rare, the support series look a bit thin on the ground, understandable for the Clios but not the others.

The driving standards across the whole package have been improving of late. It was a while back where they were in decline.

A great start to the season, and how BTCC has upped its game.  No no-hoper backmarkers and driving standards to put most race series to shame.  Damp track and half the grid on slicks would have been a recipe for a red flag a few years ago, but now not even a safety car.

The new BMWs look proper, unlike that 1-Series which I could never love, and work well out of the box.  Plato hero to zero (he probably didn't think the grid line rules applied to him) which is always a good story.  The old order really has changed and I look forward to a new different champion this year, but I haven't a clue who it will be!

Catched the races... what to say, great competition, great drivers, lots of cars. Best series on four wheels on the planet? I wouldn't argue against it.

Finally finished watching the prog.

Great start to the season. Great to see Mark Blundell will be interesting to see how he goes. Shame about the penalty for Tom, but it wasn't exactly clean.

Have to decide which new track to attend this year... I've done Brands (& indy) and silverstone so far and want to go to a few more tracks. It's got to be the best value sports ticket around. £30 for 8 hours entertainment

Oulton or Thruxton, depending where you live. Both terrific. Also Snetterton's quite civilised these days, ever since Jonathan Palmer demolished the original toilets.

Rob Austin and HMS will take part in the mid-season tyre test, ahead of a projected return to the series for 2020.

After a typically dramatic opening three races, the BTCC moves on to Donington Park for round two this weekend. It's set to be another unpredictable meeting - in part due to both the weather, and the fact that some of the series' big name find themselves out of position in the standings:

1    Josh COOK     BTC Racing     44
2    Tom CHILTON     Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher     40
3    Stephen JELLEY     Team Parker Racing     35
4    Rory BUTCHER     Cobra Sport AmD AutoAid/RCIB Insurance     34
5    Adam MORGAN     Mac Tools with Ciceley Motorsport     31
6    Jake HILL     TradePriceCars.com     30
7    Ashley SUTTON     Adrian Flux Subaru Racing     27
8    Andrew JORDAN     BMW Pirtek Racing     23
9    Matt NEAL     Halfords Yuasa Racing     22
10    Tom INGRAM     Team Toyota GB with Ginsters     20

As for Colin Turkington? He's currently in P13, on 14 points. Dan Cammish is P18, on just 6.

So, will normal service (or normal by the BTCC's standards) be resumed this weekend? Those new BMWs looked wickedly fast at Brands Hatch, and Andrew Jordan took the car's maiden win in race two.

Jordan looks to be in good shape here as well, as he topped the times in FP1 ahead of Sutton, Cammish, Ingram, Turkington and the seemingly back-on-form Jason Plato. http://www.btcc.net/...-sutton-in-fp1/

Qualifying is at 15:15 today, and could be particularly eventful, given it's likely to be influenced by the terrifying sounding Storm Hannah! You can watch at the usual place: https://www.itv.com/btcc

The three races tomorrow are set for 11:35, 14:30 and 17:15 - weekend's timetable here: https://www.tsl-timi...2019/191703.pdf

Anyone lucky enough to be heading along? Sunday thankfully looks like being a better day for the weather. I had hoped to be attending, but it looks fairly unlikely now. :well:

My BTCC hype is growing again. My Thruxton (May) tickets have arrived and I fully expect the whole season to produce the excitement we’ve come to expect.

Donington is one of my favourite UK circuits. Hopefully I’ll be able to watch tomorrow.

A very messy qualifying session, with three red flag stoppages. Turkington takes pole, by a whopping six tenths from Josh Cook, with Sutton, Smiley, Tordoff, Ingram, Cammish, Neal, Oliphant and Collard rounding out the top ten.

Selected others: Plato 12th, Chilton 13th, Jordan 16th, Jelley 17th, Butcher 19th, Hill 22nd

Too much motorsport on this weekend (though you can never have too much) - may have to watch the BTCC races tomorrow night/Monday.

Here's to 3 great races tomorrow.

watched BTCC (the first round with those wet/dry conditions) for the first time in a long long time. Very enjoyable.

Cars on the grid for race one - dry conditions, but some very threatening clouds overhead.

Turkington should be the favourite for this one, but nothing's guaranteed in this series...

Incidentally - that's the first safety car of the season.

They didn't take long to make up for the lack of safety car laps at Brands did they.

Hate seeing so much damage after an incident that just seemed to be one of those first lap things.
