Apparently Abraham told fans at Brno today that Avintia dumped him yesterday, by e-mail no less.

Goodbye to the not good enough pay rider. He could try MotoE now, maybe.

If you can spare 5 minutes, this video is very entertaining and informative.

Question - the UK was the dominant country in motorcycling up into the 1950's but you'll notice after they got to 138 wins, it basically took them 60 years to get another win.  What happened to cause such a gap in-between wins?

Having a good generation of riders is key. UK had them back then just like USA had them in the 80s and Italy had Agostini and Rossi an then spain has had Pedrosa/Lorenzo and now Marquez.
Riders talent matters a lot in MotoGP.

Spain got their first 500cc race victory in 1992. Crazy! Almost the opposite of Brits.

I dont know why but Spain only had winner(s) in the lower classes decades ago and nothing in the top class.
Angel Nieto was the king of small displacement bikes with 13 championships. The second rider with most championships, after Agostini

Zarco for Abraham is however a massive upgrade for Avintia.

Hope they step up. At least for Rabat's sake.

Yep. They’ve looked decent enough before - Hector Barbera was top ten in the points only a few years ago - and that I think was the year where the Ducati customers all started on something approaching a level playing field. So it at least shows that if they have the equipment they can run with the others (in that case Pramac and Aspar). Hopefully Ducati’s promises come through. Rabat gave us the briefest of flashes of his ability before getting injured a couple of years ago then the Avintia was sh*t again.

Rookies usually improve in their second seasons. A lot of attention has been on Quartararo, but what does anyone think about the prospects of Mir and Bagnaia? Bagnaia was fairly invisible this year, apart from one 4th in one race. Was this a flash in the pan or is there more to come? Mir became a regular top 8 contender later in the season. Can he improve further on that, become a podium contender and threaten Rins' #1 position in Suzuki?

The TT left the championship and the UK started racing Superbikes.

Not the only reason but it certainly is part of it.

Rumour that Marc Marquez has now hurt the other shoulder which has dislocated twice! He may face the same surgery again this winter

This year he crashed less, but seemed to have more big knocks. Thailand, Sepang, now in testing. This isn't good.

I think the op is to make suree it doesn't get as bad as the other one, rather than get to the point where it was actually destroyed.

Hope he has a good recovery.

Personally I was quite impressed by Mir, I think he has the potential to match Rins next season.

Mir did well, did exactly what Rìns himself and Vinales did in their rookie years on the Suzuki - no fireworks, quietly learning and getting more competitive by the end of the year. I don’t think the Suzuki is the type of bike that you can wrestle a shock pole or whatever Quartararo was able to do as a rookie, it’s just a very solid platform to get you up there or thereabouts. He’ll do well in year two just like the other two did.

Didn’t think much of Bagnaia really, in all honesty. Very poor qualifier. Expected more after how good he’d been in his Moto2 title year.

I think Mir repaid the faith Suzuki had shown in him plucking him directly out of Moto3.

Agreed.

He had a bad crash and missed some races, but the speed is there. Hopefully next years Suzuki will be better in qualifying and have its riders start so far back all the time.

Im starting to wonder whether Moto2 is a good learning school for MotoGP.

Maybe going straight from Moto3 is actually better.

Binder’s comments are interesting. Moto2 bikes have to be ridden almost oppositely to MotoGP machines,

I don't think it'd make a difference. What bike in the world behaves like a MotoGP bike?

Different MotoGP bikes behave different depending on the manufacturer, to start with...

Which one of them comes the closest to a Moto3 bike?

None.

But when you skip Moto2, at least you’re not learning ‘wrong habits’ for 2-3 years.

It's very difficult to go directly from Moto3 to Motogp, the difference in power is just to big. And besides the new Moto2 is at least a bit closer to Motogp than it used to be.

This happens in cars too. I mean how different are F2/F3 cars from F1 ones? Probably worlds apart.

Its the same for everybody, so I dont think there's so much problem with "habits"

Did any of you guys actually read Binder’s comments on the difference between Moto2 and MotoGP?

For one, he’s saying you have to be much more aggressive on the power in MotoGP compared to the delicate Moto2 throttle control (!).

Quite normal when switching categories in cars and bikes that there are such big characteristic differences such as the example of throttle control you mention. The best riders will simply adapt.

Which should be very very easy to do. Always easier to go from gentle to aggressive than the other way around.

I always thought moto 3 is a bit of a waste of time for preparing for MotoGP.

Moto2 and MotoGP are much more similar when it comes to race craft. The pack racing of moto3 is closer to racing at Talledega. No one goes from high teens to first down the main straight in Moto2 and GP, but it happens often in Moto3. Even qualifying is a completely different game to the big leagues.

You can be a second a lap slower and still be a race winner in moto3 if you’re good at timing your attacks in the pack.

Casey Stoner has opened up about his battle with Chronic fatigue syndrome. I feel for him, must be so hard to deal with when he’s been an active athlete. https://www.motorspo...ndrome/4606046/

Incredible ride by Nico Canepa in horrendous conditions. Once again, Pirelli prove conclusively that they should find something in another industry which does not involve the manufacture of tyres.

should be a four-year ban, as far as I can see. That's his career over then.

edit: two years, if he can prove that it wasn't taken intentional

He potentially had the world at his feet in 2015/16 and his complete implosion has been painful to follow.

LOL, that sums up most of how I feel. Too bad.

I wonder if this might have been in part fuled by the longest calendar ever, IIRC, with no real downtime for riders to recover.

Bizarre. You would think it would be counterproductive too.... Cortisone or anti-inflammatory drugs I can understand, but anabolic steroids???

If anything, weight loss drugs (Nori Haga anyone?) make more sense...
