I would like to see Fernando in the car one afternoon late on in both tests to gauge the cars performance. There must be good communication between him and the two drivers though.

The day we can talk about McLaren and F1 in general without talking about Alonso is still far off. :smoking:

Interesting....wonder if Coca-Cola will put this on the car?

What the hell is that???

But, colours go together quite well and the timing would be perfect. This new flavour will be available from feb 25th. Just after the Mclaren launch...hmmm...

However, let's stop dreaming. I'm not expecting to see much coca-cola branding on the Mclaren.

Wonder if McLaren will have a fake Lucky Strike badge like Ferrari's fake Marlboro chevron.

Maybe say Strike it Lucky or something like that, pretend it is for a lottery :p

The circle in the new logo does make me think of Luckies. Let's see how it looks when they put some color on it.  :stoned:

In all seriousness though this is some significant financial backing for McLaren. How BAT approach this in comparison to PMI will be interesting to see.

With new products that are miles safer than cigarettes. Nobody really knows yet but there is probably metrics to say that alcohol is more harmful than vaping... There are certainly over the counter pharmaceutical products that are worse. Hats of to McLaren I say, playing by the rules, until vape sponsorship is banned, they're just following modern sources of income.

That's great news! The more partners and money gets in, the better, I'm not a fan of tobacco money but nowadays we can't be too picky.

All letters being covered by the C can spell TOBACCO (C, A B, T O)

It must be significant, otherwise they wouldn't risk putting off other partners by associating by proxy with a tobacco company.

I believe its subject to the same laws as the cigarette ban, but as as a non-smoker I'll be happy when both are banned from all public places. Nothing to do with being a do-gooder, just think its disgusting.

Racecar engineering - about the MCL33

The MCL33 looked very similar to the MCL32. The car featured just a small engine air intake on the roll hoop, as well as relatively small ducts in each sidepod. In fact, it not only looked simple, but also under-cooled. The press and public were not the only people to be surprised by the MCL33’s cooling layout.
‘Renault were shocked when they saw our car, with the size of the air intakes,’ Roberts says. ‘They really questioned us strongly, asking if we were sure we had got it right, and if we were getting enough air. I don’t want to say that the cooling system is class leading because that sounds a bit arrogant, but the guys did a really good job, especially in terms of efficiency, it was great. Had the car been quick everyone would have loved it, but it wasn’t, and if a car is not quick then people kind of miss those details.’
As for the centreline cooling layout and the short sidepods McLaren decided against using them for reasons beyond the thermal demands of the rear end of the car. ‘We didn’t
use centreline cooling due to concerns over centre of gravity, which is higher with that layout,’ Roberts says. ‘If you look at some of the cars using centreline cooling they also have quite large sidepod inlets. I think more teams have converged on our type of solution in terms of coolers. Certainly the teams with the lower Ferrari style central crash tubes have had to.’

If found this more interesting.
"focused solely on BAT's potentially reduced risk products and grounded in technology and innovation" - That's PR speak if there ever was one.

I'd be more surprised if it wasn't a major partnership. BAT ain't exactly small potatoes. What's the point otherwise?

I think McLaren have done seriously well here. Can't say I was expecting it but its great to see.

Really McLaren? You couldn’t find anything other than tobacco? I know times are tough but I was really hoping I’d seen the last of them on the team I’d always supported.

I wonder if they’d checked with their other partners first. Plenty of companies want absolutely nothing to do with tobacco.

Disappointed with McLaren (and Ferrari) here. Can understand that they need the money, but there’s a time and place for dealing with tobacco. The place may be F1, but the time was 20 years ago.

Not only that, but the fact that they’re only “potentially” risk reducing. Vapes are usually glycerol or propylene glycol-based, both of which I work with on a regular basis and both of which carry a workplace exposure limit via inhalation that is around about what you would be inhaling via vapes. Not convinced they’re much better than cigarettes.

I feel the same about alcohol advertising tbh. I know people have a choice and all that, but it still doesn’t sit well with me; although alcohol/tobacco companies certainly aren’t the only industries that profit off of people’s addictions and/or suffering.

I’ll get off my soapbox now.

Good on them. I fail to see how it's any worse than alcohol branding that still litters the sport, despite the negative message it sends. Alcohol damages many many lives but remains more socially acceptable, yet it seems that if you add the phrase 'Please enjoy responsibly' to your ads these days, you're pretty much golden for anything.

Whilst I don't smoke or vape, or enjoy the smell, the fact is the teams simply have to go where the sponsorship money is when it comes up.

How unkind you all are. Surely we should admire enterprise "centred on accelerating BAT's transforming agenda, leveraging its portfolio of potentially reduced risk products."

Cough.
