noikeee

Hmmm. Hadn't known about Verstappen's history of violence (do now, having looked it up). That's not amusing at all, and far worse than just annoying... :well:

As shady as Schumacher was, many of his teammates have reputations at least as shady or worse... Schumi got his break because Gachot was jailed for assaulting a cab driver, Lehto was involved in a drunk boating accident that killed his passenger, Verstappen has a history of domestic violence, and there may have been something that involved Irvine being arrested at some point but that may be my imagination filling in the blanks. Rosberg throwing a hat at someone kinda pales in comparison to that crew, although he did park it in Monaco under dubious circumstances once.

Herbert and Barrichello were the only two who seemed to stay out of trouble.

Yeah, but Gachot sprayed that cabbie with tear gas when the guy threatened to get physical, which is kinda funny.

Irvine got a six-month prison sentence for brawling in a nightclub in Milan with a son of the mayor. Neither man is likely to serve time.

You can add Jos Verstappen to my list of annoying drivers.

Super quick in his junior career but then got carried away with his own hype "Jos the Boss" and so on. Elevated too early to F1 in the top car of the time and made a bit of a hash of it all....a few years later looked like he might deserve his place on the grid but was already giving interviews proclaiming he was the best driver in the world and boasting how he'd never read a book in his life. Somehow boasting of ignorance doesn't sit well with me....and in recent years the stories of domestic violence which are well documented.

Max, on the other hand...yes he's spoiled but at least he lives up to the hype. And he doesn't often repeat the hype machine's words about himself. I can live with big-headed people who actually perform and don't abuse their partners.

Irvine could be full of himself too. But I always laughed at his incident at Suzuka in 93 when Senna punched him for totally reasonably unlapping himself. However some of the spew to come out of his mouth is ridiculous. And you could possibly blame Irvine for Jos' spectacular flip in his grand prix debut.

When you say possibly, you fail to mention that the FIA did blame Fast Eddie and he subsequently received a three race ban and large fine for the incident. It's a terrible bit of driving from Irvine there, literally pushing Jos onto the grass.

The problem wasn't really Irvine.  Brundle was slowing to an engine-blown stop, and Bernard jinked left to go around, right into Irvine's path.

Remember Bernard was a lap behind.  Had he known there were two behind him, and therefore no room, he would probably have braked harder rather than steered.

But banning Irvine for that, given what Schumacher got up to on a depressingly regular basis, was asinine.

Always thought it was weird Brundle never got off the racing line given his car had just thrown its flywheel...

Is that what happened ? So was Irvine the car that was on the furthest right, from the shot that we see, in the clip that YouTube provided ? Which of those four cars, was Irvine  ?

That Alonso is not on anybody's list. Always blaming the team and kicking someone in his comments. Really irritating guy to work with I think.

Absolutely agree. Totally up his own arse. Hamilton and Vettel also very annoying. Others who've gotten my Goat are Barichello, Sienna, Prost, Schumacher, Villeneuve, Hill and now Max Verstappen is irritating me. Oh and Mark Webber. He really liked playing the poor me card and deflecting attention from his mediocre performance. Edit: Grosjean! How could I have forgotten him?! Also Button for some reason I just can't explain... I think it was his attitude in the Brawn.

In no particular order, except for 1 and 2!

1) Lewis Hamilton, especially when he's wearing those ridiculous Emperor Hirohito glasses!
2) That bloke that comes on the radio and says "Get in there Lewis" whenever he wins!
3) Toto Wolfe, cant think of a reason, he just annoys me!
4) Any driver that retires from a race then walks back to the pits without taking his helmet off!
5) All those drivers from the 90s that were going to be the next Schumacher, but then did diddly squat, e.g. Frentzen, Fisichella, Trulli, Salo, Magnussen, ( I'm sure there's more but I'm even more board trying to think of them than I was watching them!)
6) Mansell, for falling about all over the place when he won, and for falling about all over the place AND moaning when he didn't!
7) Stirling Moss, can't do an interview without mentioning crumpet!
8) Drivers with silly names, e.g. Button, Bottas, Stoffel vandoorne, Lando Norris etc etc
9) Nelson Piquet, for winning the championship in 1981.
10) Carlos Reutemann, for not winning the championship in 1981!

This cracked me up, especially #2 maybe because he sounds like JAMES ALLEN!

Is there a top ten annoying racing commentator thread yet? I wonder who'd beat the mighty JA?

I'm pretty sure this means like 85% of all WDC's won since the mid 80's has been by someone you find very annoying.

That must be tough to endure.

Def. Olav Mol (Dutch  F1 commentator). I do like Max, but the Dutch commentary/show is one Max-ass kissing contest. It's one big cringe fest.

The most annoying (comment or whatever annoying thing 2018), apart from the annoying Gasly words in Abu Dhabi like "check, if there's fire! CHECK IT!"... the tone of voice was excruciating, was when Will Smith was saying something like "that's how it's done" or "that's how I told you to do it" or something similar... I was about to spit like a llama.

The moment with Bieber in Monaco was nothing compared to that.

That's because of the nationality-driven fans or commentators..

That's another chapter or even another level of embarrassment.

1- Murray Walker. His voice used to cut straight through me
2- Jonathan Legard. Managed to mess up his first opening sentence, all downhill from there
3- Martin Haven. A bit too opinionated for my liking
4- David Croft. Sky ruined him, was originally awesome on BBC practice coverage

Not really a commentator but a Jake Humphrey used to boil my p***, walking around like he owned the place

I tend to have no problem or like the other commentators

Legard. Commentating. Going well. Round the bend. Uphill. And downhill again. Is it good enough? No it isn't.

I'd put Will Buxton at the top of that list. Any of the F1 videos he's in are just unwatchable.

Watching this sport must be pure torture for you. Seems you hate anyone who wins or whos names don't start with Mika and Kimi.

This thread is comedy gold.

"He can really start to push on now"

God he was useless. I thought James Allen was bad and celebrated like mad when it went to the BBC for 2009. I liked the idea of Legard, I liked the look of the guy and I liked his name and the fact he wasn't James Allen and didn't have a child called Enzo.

Then he opened his mouth.

On Dan Ticktum.....bit of a pantomime villain isn't he? Young and arrogant. No different to most of them, only we don't like our British up and comers to be quite as outspoken. I don't mind Ticktum so much, probably because I teach sixth formers and see arrogant teenagers every day!

When Patrese arrived in F1 during 1977 he was seen as something of an "enfent terrible" by many. Things were not helped by Hunt certainly laying blame at him over Peterson's death. It can be demonstrated that if anything, Hunt bore some responsiblity for the accident....definitely not Patrese in my book. Multiple angles are freely available...if you really want to watch it....

Hunt did mellow a bit towards the end of his (and Patrese's) career....showing genuine concern when Patrese had his near backflip crash at Estoril in 1992 and pointing out during 1991 that Patrese had a shot at the title. But yes, during the 80s Murray Walker knew he could liven up a boring race by praising Patrese, Arnoux or Alliot and that it would send James off on a bit of a diatribe. A few years later James had it in for Nannini too, over his apparent lack of commitment throughout a race. I remember him reading out a series of lap times from a race where Nannini certainly seemed inconsistent and James going on about not understanding why Sandro was popular and in demand.

I miss James Hunt. Didn't always agree with him but there was never a dull moment.

The reason why Patrese got drivers backs up is because he was young and quick, which you were not allowed to be in those days unless you drove for Ferrari. F1 was looking for an excuse and Monza gave them one, even though he was totally innocent.

After Keke and Jones, Patrese was my favourite driver.

Sometimes the racer isn't even annoying, but his fanbase is the worse and then the association becomes inevitable.

Have a look in the Daytona 24 Hours thread for another example of that other then the obvious names already mentioned in reply on this post....

It was probably the safest place to stay rather than jinking across the track with 3 cars baring down on him, although he could have pulled to the right onto the grass but I think the grass was greasy from recent rain?

Murray Talker was sweet, but cringy. His gaffes were very entertaining.

I find Brundle's repetition of catch phrases annoying but he's not as bad as Legard.

Blasphemy!!
You should know that the only God of racing is AJ Foyt

More seriously, you wanna suggest that Alonso's recent years in F1 must be rated as being his Passion Story, being at Mclaren effectively his crucifixion and this Daytona victory and what is to follow the Ressurection Story?
Oh, and while I'm in the mood, he did not walk on water yesterday but drove on it instead???

Yes indeed, fanboys of a certain driver can be more annoying than the God they have proclaimed.

I guess you are reading way too much into my post. If you have seen Daytona 24 (I hope you did), you cannot deny that Alonso drove a brilliant race.  Don't be bitter about it Henri.

I'd wager what really annoyed you yesterday wasn't the everpresent, for any celebrity or sports people, exxaggerating part of the fans, but how Alonso showed undisputable brilliance in his profession once again.

Besides, hyperbole fan comments might be annoying for the non-fan, but taking them serious easily tops it for silliness.
