---------------------------------------------

WHEN: This saturday, January 26th
WHERE: Back in Santiago, but this time into the O'Higgins Park!
WHY: Have you seen the first two races? Ok, that's why

---------------------------------------------

SANTIAGO IS BACK
IN A NEW LOCATION!

After two incredibile rounds of pure Formula E racing, we're back in Santiago of Chile for Round 3 of the 2018/2019 Campaign!
But everything's new: track location has been changed into the woods of the O'Higgins Park, the biggest park of the capital, and an interesting Half-Oval track has been built into it!

It will be SCORCHING HOT, 35 degrees expected under a bright sun: will some batteries blow up

Take a look at the location! Reminiscent of Battersea Park? Don't worry, this will be much wider, faster, will plenty of overtaking opportunities.

Senza-titolo-2.png

But first, let's go back to the....

MARRAKESH e-PRIX
OH BOY, THAT WAS A STUNNER!

You knew that was going to be a race to remember as soon as Jean Eric Vergne dive-bombed inside Sam Bird's Virgin at Turn 1, spinning out of the race.
Chaos behind: as Lucas Di Grassi tangled into Pascal Wehrlein's Mahindra, while Stoffel Vandoorne outbraked himself to smash his teammate's Gary Paffet's HWA.

Just an appetizer of the drama to come: the BMW pair attacked the flying englishman in coordinate fashion, while plenty of wheel to wheel battles where taking place in the midfield.

It was all looking good for BMW: comfortable 4 seconds lead, Da Costa leading Sims in apparent no-effort.

Than something happened: Da Costa's pace started dropping lap after lap, Sims got nervous as the Jerome D'Ambrosio's train began to cut the gap down to 2 seconds

No radio working for Sims, D'Ambrosio in the mirrors...

DRAMA, BMW COLLIDES!

giphy.gif
DILBAGH IS HAPPY!

Da Costa smashes into the wall & it's race over for the (EX) Leader of the Championship!

Sims manages to avoid it but lost 3 positions: now D'Ambrosio leads with only a few minutes remaining: a LOOOOOOOOOOONG SC gave us only 1 lap left of racing
Boy, that was tense: while Sims tried a desperate move on Sam Bird for P3, D'Ambrosio held on to Frijns's attack at the last corner for an incredibile Mahindra victory!

giphy.gif

That means Jerome d'Ambrosio now LEADS the drivers championship after two races. Who would have said that??
Jean Eric Vergne showed once again the immense Techeetah's pace, by gaining more than 10 seconds on the race leaders after his early spin: finishing 5th in the race!

1241241.png

IF THE FULL RACE IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU!

PARQUE O'HIGGINS CIRCUIT
THAT'S A COOL LITTLE TRACK!

santaigo.png

This year's Santiago circuit looks unique: set into the woods of the O'Higgins Park, the track combines super fast sections to very techinical ones, with two 180° hairpins that will lead into a super wide first sector
Turn 1-6 is a combination of medium speed corners, drivers will have to carry in the maximum speed there, before launching into the "Oval" at Turn 7 exit.

A tight chicane is going to divide it into two segments, similar to Mexico's Peraltada.
Turn 12 is going to be very tricky, braking while turning, this will catch people out: than we've got the two hairpins, good for Re-Gen.

In fact, this track has so many braking zones, that will allow drivers to go pretty much FLAT-OUT, with minimal energy saving!

That means, faster cars in race!  :smoking:

Enjoy a (slow) lap of Santiago!

On paper the new circuit doesn't fill me with much confidence but let's wait and see. I sure hope it works better than it looks.

JEV has to be title favorite and favorite to win in Chile given that he could (should) have won both races so far. Despite both set backs he is equal second in the drivers championship table.

I wonder how it will be ruined for him this weekend?  :rotfl:  :drunk:

Time to practice my Marty McFly Jr style multi-screen content consumption then. 2015 was four years ago after all...

This is a fantastic insight into what goes on behind the scenes. We learnt that Paffett was pretty pissed with Vandoorne and Sims clearly thought he was in the right.

If i was producing the FE coverage i would not bother with the live radio tbh, you can't hear it over the action and commentary anyway but this more than makes up for it!

I will. Hopefully someone here will link the full race.
Or wait... I can DVR it at home and watch when Daytona is over.

What a blessed weekend of Motorsport awaits for us this week. Very grateful for it.

Can't wait to finally stay home and enjoy this damn race live for the first time this season.

Daytona starts at 19.35 tho!

So not really simultaneous, the FE race is going to start at 19.00, with pre race starting 18.30!
You can enjoy at least half an hour of crazyness before switching to Daytona, if you really want! :smoking:

Talking about hot stuff: someone could self-combust in Santiago this saturday!

Is everything in Chile named after General Bernard O'Higgins or Admiral Cochrane?

Could they not have made the race just an hour earlier so the end doesn't overlap with the start of the Rolex 24? Guess some double screening will be needed...

Good thing those FE cars can pull out a good show on almost every possible layout! 👍🏻👍🏻

I quite like this little track tho, should be fun, especially that first sector looks fast & challenging!

Also, we should have a pretty flatout race given all those braking points!

I know there is a common complaint that F1 doesn't mix up it's winners enough and the fastest guy in the best team wins too often but if JEV doesn't win soon FE's also doing something wrong IMHO. The fastest guy in the best team is supposed to win - that's sort of the point !

Come on Jean-Éric.

Both losses so far were either the team or driver's fault though.. it seems as though Techeetah maybe have the fastest car in race spec but it's not so clear cut in qualifying. If they can qualify near the front and stay out of trouble it should be game on!

I have to say it looks wider & faster than expected!
The main straight is very long (550 + meters),  Turn 1 looks surprisingly fast with that open radius, race start & quali will be interesting there  :smoking:

Can't see a really tight point in it, maybe the chicane when they'll place the tec pro barriers.
But even the two hairpins doesn't look as claustrophobic as New York, for example.

Let's wait for the simulator lap to get a better idea, but it should be in for a very racy saturday here   :smoking:

Also beacause it could be the hottest FE race ever.

Someone could get in trouble, battery-wise, with those venusian temperatures.

I think T7 is wrong there tho, it's not that open, there should be an inside kerb.

I think in a reply to a comment at one point they said Twitter/Instagram versions of the virtual laps are slightly sped up/unrealistically fast because of the short attention spans given to scrolling feeds. Or something like that.

Turn one looks a lot faster that I was expecting though!

***The future of the Hong Kong E-Prix is believed to be under considerable threat according to key sources in the city. A directive by the FIA to the Hong Kong ASN has requested a lengthening of the existing layout for a 2020 event should it get a slot on next season’s calendar.

Well. I think we'll see more of this in the next few years as FE grows, they'll tell the venues to adapt or be replaced. And probably rightly so, for the most part. We shall see.

With there seemingly being TOO MUCH energy available this season, makes you wonder what changes they might make to next season. Getting rid of the timed races seems obvious. Might they increase the power more than previously planned?
