IIRC when they bought the assets they used MSA as the ASN to secure the license so that would make them UK.  I haven't heard they applied via ASN Canada for this year.

So the Iriish, Canadian/Russian, Dutch & Indian team finally became British?  All without moving premises.

Jordan was always registered as a British team wasn't it? I don't remember them playing other national anthems when Damon or HHF won races.

Anybody remember Nick Montel, Carlos Sanchez, Helmut Becker and Matthew d'Orleans!?

I only remember Luigi Rivellini.

No, it was registered as Irish when HHF won races in 1999. I'm 99% sure they played the Irish anthem on the podium.

EDIT: Found some sources which say it was registered as British and some as Irish. Irish anthem was definitely played in France.

The British anthem for Hill was a mistake, Jordan complained about it after the race. As for poor Fisi, he got bugger all. http://www.espn.co.u...irst-grand-prix

Has Racing Point still not anounced a test (reserve) driver?

Will they launch actual car today?

I read an article few days back with Green saying they may or may not be on track on first day of testing  :(.

EDIT: They are out now but same story as last years

AMuS: One hour is already around. Low-fat diet at Red Bull and HaasF1. Max Verstappen has shown only once on the track. Romain Grosjean rolled for three laps around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Racing Point is now attacking properly. Sergio Perez makes the first fast laps. We hear: The team starts with a base car in the tests. In Melbourne should then come the real RP19.

I have to admit I have a soft spot for this team. Ever since the Jordan days, they seem to build decent cars in difficult circumstances, as long as the money is there.

I wonder how many of the original Jordan staff is still around.

If only they could run decent colors on that car

Had to scroll some way down for this thread. I have to say not bad for Perez to bring this car into top 10, considering the turmoil and changes the team had last year. Also worth noting that each year Force India used to improve during the season. I assume Racing Point will have the same habit? Ownership may have changed, but most of the team is still the same. So from that point of view may be looking good for the season, from car performance point of view.

Yep, great job.  I never bought that they were in bad shape over winter, they just kept quiet.  They have a better budget now, able to develop better, its looking positive again for them.  Stroll showed occasional good signs throughout the weekend so far but has to execute better, Perez is better than most give him credit for.

Every year I expect them to fall back and every time they prove me wrong by remaining in the upper midfield.

It looks that the battle in the midfield is going to be bloody...

Hopefully they can improve their car throughout the entire year!

Credit where it's due. Perez  and the Racing Point was mighty today. I 100% did not see it coming. Nobody was even talking about Racing point before qualifying. To show up in melbourne with an untested car and put it in Q3 is out of this world.

I'm sure Racing Point would still love to go back to Barcelona to understand the new package a bit more but I guess they will be using the FP1s for development.

Well done Stroll, good for you mate!!!  Very nice start with his new team.

I missed half the race, dont know how they ended up where they did, did Perez have an issue?

Pérez lost two positions on the first lap.   was one of those who stopped earlier to attempt an undercut, but lost time and ended up at the back of the group of those who pitted.  He passed Albon, but the early pitters all lost too much ground to those who stopped later (including Stroll), due to being stuck behind Giovinazzi for many laps.

Thank you for the rundown.  I missed the middle of the race so all the pitstops, can I assume that the undercut wasn't working as drivers were struggling bringing new tyres up or was it purely traffic?

I did see that it looked like Merc were trying to leave Bottas out to hang him out to dry but Ham couldn't switch the tyres on.....

Giovinazzi train harmed several drivers who pitted early. Along with Stroll, Kvyat was able to take advantage.

Stroll has a canny knack of grabbing points when an opportunity presents itself and he did just that today. Just needs to learn how to qualify.

Perez very unlucky, was the quicker driver but caught behind the slow moving Alfa for too long.

This team always come on strong after the first couple races so a points finish here is nice work.

I think I saw that he was only 0.1 sec off Perez in Quali too?  Enough to miss the Q1 cut and look bad vs his top 10 team mate but if that is correct thats a very very good weekend....

The car isn't working really well right now, but then "the team formerly known as Force India" has faced that problem before and sorted it within 2-3 races. Hopefully there is potential to unlock in the car.

Perez was unlucky to get stuck in the Giovinazzi train. Stroll made the best of his race and was quite impressive today.

Solid job by Stroll. I've certainly been a critic, but that was downright decent.
