Translated: Racing Point has agreed an important sponsoring deal with the SportPesa online sports tournament prior to the 2019 season. RaceFans reports that the former Force India team agreed a two-year deal with an option for another season.

I think the important part of this article is that the title sponsorship is only worth $8m in 2019 and $10m in 2020. That's peanuts. Even Martini had to pay $15m for their sweetheart deal with Williams.

 

Either Stroll really doesn't need the extra money or even Force India (a well run and very effective team), now under new leadership and solid backing, can't get a real title sponsor....

Rexona (Unilever) allegedly pays in the region of 17/18 million a year for it's place on the Williams sidepods.
Can't shake the feeling this Force Canada deal is a bit.. pale. Certainly when it is a title sponsorship.

I heard they'll ditch the "Point" because it's odd and that their new name will be Ultimate Racing and Motosport Performance Formula one Grand prix team.

And their car will be called "URMPF1GPT Stroll-001 Vision"

I haven't seen anywhere being announced that BWT would end their contract.

I thought there where some down points for betting compagnies to sponsor in F1, like not allowed to advertise betting some countries or something like that. That could explain "lower" price?

 

Any betting compagnie linked to any sport gives me instantly a itchy feeling with all those fixed matches cases in all those different sports, but they should have right to advertise and sponsor never the less. And it's a sector with huge PR budgets. That could also be part of the price, that they do more out-f1, but with F1 related PR then regular sponsor.

From what I seem to remember from the administration process is that the money BWT paid to Force India apparently was some form of loan. Maybe Stroll has paid off the loan and therefore ended the sponsorship deal?

For comparison purposes the Everton FC / Sportspesa shirt sponsorship deal is supposed to be worth about 9.6m GBP a season.

On your last point, either am I, just my conclusion atm. But had thought about it for minutes before posting it. Have a related bigger issue that I think needs a seperated topic, so will make that I a moment.

IIRC that loan was paid prior to the deal closing with Stroll et al. paying for the ongoing operation as well until the deal closed.  It was said that was one of the things that got Stroll et al. the exclusive right to complete the deal.

Why try to bring back the Lola name? It’ll never properly be Lola again, it’d be just like all of that Lotus debacle which always felt particularly inauthentic.

Heritage naming rights does not a genuine revival make.

They have a great chance to re-brand themselves here given the owners design background. You'd expect the livery should be very on-point, so to speak. I am looking forward to something striking, I just hope it isn't largely white like a backmarker.

 

I think it's going to end up looking like the 1992 Brabham.... bold. 

 

Massively underrated little unit this team, it's still our beloved Jordan at the core don't forget.

 

I do expect them to keep punching above their weight, and Stroll may raise eyebrows for other reasons. He is quite a solid finisher really, if unspectacular. Provided he starts high, his first lap skills might actually make him the surprise star of 2019 if he holds it all together.
