Not sure if this is another new front wing or if it's the angle that makes it look different:

It’s a trimmed version of the original by the looks of it.

If Gasly does that, he deserves praise. I doubt it happens but stranger things have occurred.

Gasly can still be useful for qualifying if he can reach Q3 and give Max a tow.

This post and all the ones after it should be in the drivers thread where this was already discussed.

Good shout. He would need to reach Q3 first though

Gasly will probably only do Q1 so he has free tyre choice.

They have to take the risk, a safety car tomorrow is likely and the risk to reward from allowing Max to have a higher grid position compared to Gasly starting on fresher tyres is in favour of the former

Gasly didn’t even bother to do quali sims, so don’t expect him to show up in Q2.

we've seen worse the last races, but you would expect pierre to reach q3 easily.

i really hope they are going for q3 with pierre. in fp3, max's time has shown how powerful slip stream is on this track.

They won't. Just like when Gasly was behind Kvyat, on track, it's just team against team. Of course they don't make it each other more difficult than needed, but STR will not sacrifice a possible p6 Q for a possible p3 or p1 Q for Max.

And, how often does a tow work? More often it doesn't then that it does imo.

Any talk about how Gasly (and team) could mis the weighting lights? Again such little mistake that they can't really afford.

On Ziggo they said the team told Gasly to push as they wanted to practise a pit stop. So he and the team were maybe too focussed on that and missed the weighing sign.

I may be to critical, but all these unneeded mistakes add up again this year. And we are only in race 4.

Than team should place back-up person on look-out if the punishment is as big as is (justified i must ad). Personal amount isn't the problem. It's procedures and excluding possible mistakes as best as possible they lack imo.

you're right, but rbr doesn't seem to have particularly worse procedures than other teams. i reckon only the mercs are more professional than the rest. still shouldn't have happened.

nice q1 by pierre!

Mercedes looks better only because they are not under pressure. When they are, they are as foolish than Ferrari. Operation wise, nobody is better than Red Bull, and I will not even talk about strategy

marko on german rtl: they won't use pierre as a slipstream supplier. they don't think they can organize it which is why they rather save some tyres for pierre's race.

They think it’s more likely to get a *lucky* stream off someone else, I can understand that so I’m not against them saving Gasly.

Gap to pole less than expected for such a long lap. Bodes well for more favourable tracks.

Shame, it looked like Max wanted to go again but didn't have the fuel....

He might have left some in the bag there

In hindsight not the right strategy for Q3 I guess. Two runs with a lighter car and fresh tyres could have given them a few tenths perhaps.

Not sure why they tried this. To avoid China?

he didn't have fresh tyres. it was pretty clever to go for another lap on the same set.

Last year it was 4 tenths, so the gap grew a bit. On the other hand Max was one of few who didn’t have a tow in the final sector, so real gap is probably a bit smaller.

Time wise a good result (about the same gap as last year) considering it was not the optimal strategy.

that's right. also, the difference in 2018 and 2019 gaps was more significant in the first three races. rb15 is progressing!

I’m glad the gap to the front is a lot smaller despite the long long straight. Gasly could also come into play with a well timed safety car and it does appear that he’s a lot closer to Max this weekend.

Max is going to be dangerous once the car is level in qualifying. He hasn’t made a single mistake and maximised every race. *touch wood*

he has pretty much done so since monaco last year (although the 2019 races do appear to be next level in terms of risk assessment). by now, it's safe to say that his current pace isn't him being on a roll or having a lucky streak - it's standard max.

EDIT: sorry A3, won't happen again :stoned:

I’m eager to see if this new Honda engine makes a difference in the race. 10/20kw we were told but we don’t know if that’s all the time. Judging by that we should be at least 10 seconds quicker through the race.

It believe the biggest difference was that the new engine could safely run longer at high power but we will see tomorrow .

Good result for max, also happy to see gasly finally shows good speed with rb15 in Q1.Its a shame for his mistake yesterday,i think he could match Max's time today.
