Hulk and Ricciardo : Awesome! If Ricciardo could manage staying with that design instead of the other vomit (sorry danny fans) design ...

Gah.  Couldn't see it from the side shot.

It's a real mess of a design, though, isn't it?  Jeez, just have the blue/red/yellow stripe, no need for a mutated arrow or the swap-over or the stupid pointless line.

Leclerc's special one is better than his normal design imo

Still quite busy.

Hulk and Ric's helmets really are some of the greatest I've seen for a long time. I really want them to keep them, even though I know they won't. Hulk's is... incredible ;)

Apparently Kimi wanted to have a open face helmet but there was "some problems with the regulations"

His designer should have just painted the chin and old-style driving glasses into the design, like here classic hockey mask designed into modern one.

Shame Albon didn't go for the Thai racing colours of light blue and yellow.  Would have stood out.  Still, nice recognition of the ultimate gentleman racer.

What’s people’s opinions on the 2019 colour of Hamilton Red or White?

Past seasons you’d say it was white but the red top on this one you could argue the % of red is greater than white.

I was going to put a disclaimer of “apart from a mess” to avoid the obvious comment I knew someone would [snip] post.

Beacuse it is, from my point of view.
The black Monster halo is a disgrace, the glittery shade of red is unbearable, there's not a clear design scheme.
Looks like last year's white, with a red sauce spread on the top of it
I challenge you to draw a sketch of that helmet, it has no visual consistency.

His White & his early yellows were much better.

Hey, at least it's pretty simple by modern standards. I'll definitely take it over the typical helmet with a mess of random bits and pieces in six different colours plastered all over.

Hamilton went from yellow to white to red.

I'm a fan of his '14-'15 white designs.

Admittedly it's a personal opinion, and may be considered somewhat dated or nostalgic given the modern tendency to come up with entirely new designs every year, but I still believe drivers should have relatively consistent helmet designs throughout their careers, since it's their personal brand and avatar.

When Hamilton left McLaren, he went on an experimental journey to redefine his design and, as a result, we are faced with new helmets every year that could in theory be for totally different drivers.

Before people go on full-ballistic mode, I'm not saying that's wrong per se, and could simply be a sign of the times, when things don't really have to last that much and constant change is received as a positive thing.

But I honestly think it's a shame and a completely wasted marketing opportunity for drivers.

But that's just my opinion.

Good article on Autosport by Jonathan Noble saying many of the current designs are a mess and the simple bold ones are much better.

How do the drivers get this turned around so fast.. guess it's just a wrap and not painted but good on Seb to do a good job of it.

Vettel's tribute to Lauda.

Awesome! (although to be honest the picture is not loading for some reason? It could be my computer, maybe Forget it, the picture loaded!)

Still, wonderful homage. Someone must have been cutting onions around here because my eyes started to tear up when I saw this.

Could it be that people close to Niki the likes of Mercedes and certain drivers knew Niki didn’t have much time left and it was a pre planned/painted lid for the inevitable?

Apparently the BBC have reels ready for the deaths of many public figures and update them every now and then. The protocol for what to do when the queen dies is nailed down already with many of the tribute films ready to roll at the push of a button.

Of course. But I don't think Vettel has a closet full of replicas of helmets of Great Drivers from the past to tribute them at the next GP if they happen to pass away. But I think he easily can pay for a new helmet and paintjob with 24h notice.

Interesting that Vettel has a replica Lauda helmet as a tribute. I have fond memories of watching the man himself wearing that design. It is part of the Lauda legacy and to use the modern terminology "brand." I wonder what drivers in the future will do to pay tribute to the Vettel and Hamilton generation - they certainly won't be able to use their consistent instantly recognizable and iconic helmet design.

Brilliantly said, hats off to you, sir.

Imagine someone in 40 years wanting to do a Grosjean tribute helmet.

That's been my point all along with the endless rants I have posted this year: drivers have failed to realize what a powerful personal marketing tool they have in their helmet designs.

Funnily enough it's Vettel who seems to have grasped the concept when he moved to Ferrari. After being the first driver in F1 history (at least the first one I remember) to actually have NO helmet identity for years in a row, his simple white helmet with the German stripes suddenly became a tribute to less is more and one of the most identifiable helmets on the grid. With the Lauda tribute, he again rubs the other drivers' noses in it and has an instantly recognizable lid - something very few of the drivers on the grid have - and the catch is that this design was made over 40 years ago.

There's a lesson there, and I'm sure it won't be learned.

Hopefully.... but that mainly goes for those who design the crash helmets throughout motorsport. You don't need half a dozen layers and odd shapes to prove you've earned your commission...

I’m a huge fan of the helmets Sean Bull has designed for Marcus Ericsson for exactly that reason.

His Indy 500 one was quite brilliant as well. Shame it didn’t bring him much luck, though.

Interesting how the first two places on the podium had drivers wearing Lauda helmets.
