Just a number change for both to protect licensing? :D
Jr. won Daytona nationwide/xfinity with the tribute scheme several years ago.

Usual Martinsville suspects showing well so far along with Almirola.

Pretty uneventful (no track limit issues lol) what I've seen also watching both.

Hamlin is the king of pit road penalties

Yes - Hendrick should be thankful for Chase.

Caution with 55 to go

That was a straight-up F1 win for Keselowski. Very impressed; Congrats.

Maybe Chevrolet should send someone over to Ford for a work experience on how to properly build a new Cup car. Seeing a single Camaro (two, if we’re very lucky) struggle against the Camrys and Mustangs of this world is getting old fast.

I also have little else to say on the 48, other than to register ym disbelief. One somewhat decent race, and it’s right back to the doldrums with them. Seems like every step forward means two steps back elsewhere at the moment, but two laps down at Martinsville of all places (despite the precedent of bad results in the last two years) hurts more than it should after I was starting to get used to the mediocrity that has become the 48 team’s defining feature.

Finally, huge congrats to Keselowski, that was a mega race. He’s actually starting to grow on me. Certainly more so than Elliott, whose reason for his popularity, other than his parentage and surname, continues to elude me.

Yep - how did Hendrick become a one man team with Chase?! Still think they should have picked up Kenseth for the 88.

Kes owned the field today. Props on the celebration - the Penske guys know how to burn it down lol

Congratulations to Brad K.

While I appreciate the different locations where NASCAR races Martinsville isn't one of my favourite tracks and when it competes against what was an exciting Indycar race in Austin, well Indycar held my attention and as a result I didn't see too much of this race.

Here are some post race stats:

Average speed of race winner 78.158 mph
Time of race 3 hours 21 minutes and 54 seconds
7 cautions for 56 laps
4 lead changes

ISM over Homestead for the finale? Not sure about that one. I'm no fan of the one-race deal (assuming the format stays the same) but Homestead seemed better suited to it on several counts.

I’ve followed him for a while and he seems pretty even-handed. He certainly doesn’t hate NASCAR.

Anyway, his points about the Pocono double being a weird idea, of NASCAR Watkins Glen now clashing with Indycar Pocono, the inevitable hate that Daytona is no longer the 4th July weekend, that Indy on 4th July is unlikely to get a big crowd and particularly that Homestead will now clash with two other major races in Florida aren’t the points of a hater. They’re all valid concerns.

They run it in Phoenix so the whole race will be in prime time on the East Coast.

What gets overlooked in the two race weekend at Pocono is NASCAR leaving a two week gap in their schedule to allow NBC to televise the Olympics. Just NASCAR being a good partner to their broadcasters. Some have suggested to look for the 2020 Indycar schedule to leave a similar gap.

Is Jr. replacing the departed Bob Costas as host? :D

2 400 milers in 2 days is interesting. Of course, the way the championship is determined they could make them run in reverse and it would have just as much impact on the season.

Good to have on the schedule for variety, just doesn't produce many compelling races and it's prone to one team hitting the setup and driving away (like Harvick for several years).

If they went back to a 10 race chase with tracks like Darlington, Bristol it would be a better alternative to the current morass IMO

What Chevy doing, 4 their cars are in top 5 in qualifying. JJ on pole.

And 7 their cars in top 10, amazing.

Lol that must have been a follow up to the Jamie Little interview which included the Newman issue as a bonus. Need a lot more of this from the drivers...

Maybe Knauss applied some of his motivational techniques or creative engineering for Hendrick. Pole obviously isnt as crucial as F1 but does carry pit box choice.

Elliott and Logano got back to the front in much better shape than Johnson. This could well be decided by tire strategy.

DW has announced his retirement. USA Today had this to say in its article today:

"Replacing Waltrip, who shares the booth with Mike Joy and former NASCAR driver and fellow Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon, won't be easy. His familiar catchphrase "Boogity, boogity, boogity — let's go racing, boys!" will be missed as much as his witty commentary and wealth of NASCAR knowledge."

I've never read a message board post praising boogity boogity. Will anyone miss it? However, I agree with the article that Waltrip gave good analysis and commentary when he was serious and was funny on occasion. Anyway, a great career on the track and in the booth. Best wishes in retirement; he's earned it. Racing will miss him. iHe had the sad misfortune of his first race being the one where his brother won but Earnhardt died.
