Not a mythical beast ... but the two most scary words in F1 right now are "Its James..."

...so I vote for a suitably German style word theW10"It'sJames"Ferrarikiller.... or if you prefer actual German - so it sounds a bit scarier - sorry Germans :p: how about just the "Es ist James"

Actually, taking context (a radio message) into account, a more accurate translation would be “Hier ist James,” or simply “James hier.” The latter one is very colloquial, though.

As far as the W10 goes, I wouldn’t mind a shake-up regarding the livery. That being said, the one they’ve been teasing induces vertigo for me.

It’ll be interesting to see whether they can avoid their early-season troubles with their “diva” this time.

Lastly, I also think we might get a clue as to how well they think they are prepared by how much, if any seat time Ocon gets during winter testing. If everything goes well, I don’t think HAM & BOT would mind having a half-day off each. If they hit trouble, you’d have to think having their regulars in the cars would be preferable to giving seat time to the guy who’ll be sitting in the simulator for most of the year.

But that'll be a change from the normal pattern of testing events so can not see that happening.

It'll be if anything the same procedure as the last few years, driver switch at lunch time.

Which is very late compared to others, hopefully a good sign that they tried to develop it as long as possible!

It's sounds like someone farting. But ok. As long it's fast engine. And it should be, it's Mercedes. This is their era.

When did the factory put put this press release?

Or did they post it on reddit or Twitter?

Merc is quiet as always, but I have seen 20 articles about Ferrari's ''supercar'', so we will see.

Source? Because you tend to hear that every year when Ferrari could be involved in a title fight.

Probably haven't been able to replicate Ferrari's mysterious battery/definitely not battery thing.

Before even the start of testing I think Ferrari are the favourites this year. I predict the "Vettel redemption arc" where he fends off his young hungry teammate.

This is off topic - but I predict another easy Mercedes/Hamilton championship as I see Vettel having a full on melt down as he will not only be trying to beat Hamilton but his new team mate will be too...

He did a while back- something about missing targets with the new engine. Although we don't know what those targets were, so.... And it gave us a topic of similar meltdowns about that nasty Toto fellow.

Maybe I'm mistaken but Vettel's teammate isn't Verstappen, is it? Just asking because I keep reading something about Vettel meltdowns because of his new teammate.

It’s Charles LeClerc - I know it’s not Mad Max.

It’s been held fact that the MGP is maxed out and gains need to come from other approaches with batteries etc. Toto has been very clear that they are concerned about meeting gains in their PU. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it was fact. That said, I think for the 1/2 half of the year it’s going to be more of an aero war then leveling out to PU performance once aero is leaned out. It will depend who nails their car setup to be in balance out of the gate,

Given that there will be much less opportunity to manipulate the front wheel wake (due to the ban of front wing real-estate and elaborate brake ducting), I suspect they will look for solutions in the design of the front wheel rims, even though it's a heavily regulated area as well.

I don’t think the cavemen that invented the simple wheel those thousands of years ago would have had any idea we would be here today. What a time to be alive!

Mercedes magic rims seemed to be quite specific to their car last year as they were the only top team that was suffering with overheating the rears so badly. I'd be surprised if we saw them popping up all over grid next year but most importantly (for Mercedes at least) is that they're allowed to continue using them. That's not to say that new solutions won't crop up in the new development war since the regs changed.

Also, the rumours of Mercedes not hitting their engine targets did indeed come from Toto's mouth. It was in that HP talk/interview he did with Lewis a few months back. However, it's worth noting that he also said the team raised their inital engine targets during the winter after hearing rumours of their rivals gaining more than expected. So they may have hit their inital target but failed to reach the second and slightly overambitious target.

It could also be Toto spouting off nonsense as we approach the new season and the mind games start. Very much looking forward to the start of testing. I've found this off season has passed by rather quickly for a change this year.

Blown axles/hubs (which are banned for 2019) also added significant aero benefits around the wheel as well. It will be interesting to see what solutions and novelties they have come up with to claw back the performance though.

Well blow me down. Given that Merc pursued the design to solve their rear tyre temp problems I didn't think it was such an issue for any of the other teams, least of all Red Bull with arguably the best tyre management of the entire grid already. But then again if it brings any performance gains whatsoever, get it on your car.

Cheers for the link
