Good Lord - now that is a rapid response.  I am still struggling to post more pix...and I will get to the point if I manage to do so...(work in progress   :( )  Oh - in trying to post further pix I have lost the lot.  Hold on passengers - might have to divert here... Scottish engineer attempting to trace and solve the issue...

Shouldn't Stirling's name be coloured green on the Eldorado car?

Shouldn't Stirling's name be coloured green on the Eldorado car?

Possibly.  The paint scheme of the Eldorado differed between its presentation to the press, practice for the 1958 Two Worlds Race and the race itself.
Googling pictures of the car during the race suggest the name was in red on one side of the car and green on the other - the opposite of the bonnet scoop.

The car is currently showing red on both sides (or at least it was at Goodwood), but seems to look green in the one colour photo I have seen (although admittedly that was in All My Races, a book with at least 2 other photos that are hugely misleading!).

Since the car was repainted in "Rosso corsa"  when it failed to qualify at Indianapolis in 1959 it has been repainted since and they may well have got it wrong during the restoration..

The red A6GCS Pininfarina is the most valuable car in the collection. Unfortunately it was completely wrong restored on the front section: Carrozzeria Campana put the ratiator grill....upside down!!!! Its a shame...

Also their Tipo 63 Serenissima had lost its front screen columns during its restoration (again done by Campana)!

I'd love to walk through that hall some day...

The 'birdcage' de Dion 'tube' is fascinating.
