When I get up this morning at 7:00am (local time) , it was 22 laps to go. And now I have arrived in office at 8:25am, the race is still not yet finished.
What a great race, what a great farce

Half expecting the winner to crash making their way to victory lane.

Getting ready to wreck again!
Just Say No.

That's a lot of different versions of the only rule...

Wrecky Stenhouse is still out there, so anything could happen but it'll probably be a crash

Logano's using his brain

least favorite result, oh well.
congrats to the survivors.

Nice one Hamlin. Good for Gibbs

Fox got exactly what they wanted. I can gua-ran-tee you the narrative NASCAR will be pushing is the triumph-over-adversity after JD Gibbs's death... while trying to make everybody forget what a clusterfrak this was.

I actually had no idea this was on today - then realised our pay tv in Aus has dropped live Nascar - must have been killing it in the ratings.

Crashes aside, was the racing as poor as predicted?
It was a lot better - not really any single file racing at all.

All I can tell you is that I was paying more attention to my game of patience until there was 35 laps to go.Crashes aside, was the racing as poor as predicted?

Speaking of AZ desert, today was a perfect day to watch the race as it was chilly and windy in north Scottsdale! Not usually a tin top fan but it was an interesting race to watch. Was rooting for Busch to win it...
F1 testing this week!! But no indycar at PHX this year

I'd say it was one of the best Daytonas in last 8 years. Kinda bummed out by the result, I rooted for everyone except Hamlin and Logano, and of those two I'd pick Logano if I had to. Now that Denny has guarantee of getting to the Chase, he will probably return to his normal behavior, i.e. wrecking people.

This rule really suck

I'm still waiting for the day we get a real life version of the crash scene from Cars...

I thought it was a good race till the crashes started. Last week, I watched some Busch Clash races from the early 80s, and there was not a lot of passing in them (of course, it was only about a dozen cars and 20 laps), mainly single-file, but you knew on the backstraight on that last lap the guy in second and maybe the guy in third were going to slingshot, and would the guy in first even have a chance to outrun them. Who knew who the winner would be? With this year's race, I knew Hamlin would win with 50 laps to go.
By the way, is there anyone on here who can explain why the cars have to be all the way down on the pavement? I mean, I know ground effects, downforce and all that, but why can't there be some ground clearance? Seems like that would help with the aero and racing, and would mean the cars wouldn't get destroyed in a little run into the grass. It would make them more like stock cars.

atrocious... they couldn't make one cleap lap of racing in the end and for all the fake drama, it was total domination of Hamlin and Kyle. Probably the worst race I have watched in a long, long time.

I've had that song in my head all day!
Interesting that US snowflake sensibilities can't handle "deaf, dumb and blind", though. Townshend don't mind--frowning all the way to the bank.

I read some articles last year that ground clearance and getting rid of the splitter have been/are being considered.
The new cars with the nose pieces that kinda-sorta resemble the street cars make the rest of the vehicle look even more like a farce.
The fact the sheet metal is now tin can thin exposed the bad joke the cars are now.

It's not nearly as substantial as a tin can. On that pit road wreck, where the quarter panels pulled off like wrapping paper on Christmas day had me thinking that 35 years ago, it would have just been some crumpled sheet metal and they would have used a baseball bat to roll it off the tire and head back out. I think the technology in the cars is incredible and wish we could know more about it, but some things were better in the past.
And where do I buy that new Mustang notchback? It looks great! By the way, a racer friend of mine 30 years ago said NASCAR should go to Camaros and Mustangs since two-door coupes were on the way out. Wish I could have invested in that prediction. Now if we could just add Challengers.

If they looked like the tube frame category 2 Trans-Am racers it would be interesting as they fairly closely resemble the vehicle they are supposed to be.
I got to see the Challenger win at Road America two years ago, it was interesting.

Agreed, but I think it's still better than the super old system from 1960s where Daytona win gave winner so many points that it was nearly impossible for the rest to catch up in the remaining 40+ races.
