I did a search and couldn't find anything on this, but we have some new quotes, this week, from Both Dan & Helmut about the Baku crash that is worthy of discussion.
If there is a thread already going that this would be better off being posted to, apologies mod's, but I could not find it.
"We both got a talking to, putting it politely. I felt like I was not really in the wrong, even if I'm the one that hit him. I think most people saw the double move.
"Before that there was a lot of contact, and a lot of people thought it went on too long. I guess the way it was handled at the time didn't sit too well with me."Handling the media, I get. It's a big brand to look after. I get it doesn't help if we both go off at each other. But I felt there was a bit of equal blame (from the team). And maybe it's just me being a stubborn race car driver but I didn't think it was an equal incident, is the easiest way to put it. "So that was a little thing, I guess, which bothered me. But it wasn't the deal-breaker."
Sounds like there could be more that happened behind the scenes?
“Verstappen could have avoided the accident, since Ricciardo was too fast,” Marko told Motorsport.com.
“He had not made the turn. He should have used the exit strip. Max should have gone to the side. But instead we got a scandal.”
Marko says the situation which put Verstappen back ahead of Ricciardo was not intended from the Red Bull pitwall.“Verstappen told us that his tyres were ready,” Marko said. “His lap time had just dropped by more than three-quarters of a second.“Then Verstappen got the signal to come in and suddenly he drove two green sectors! With tyres that, according to what he had said earlier, were at their end.”
It looks like helmut is saying Max lied to the pitwall about his tyres being done in order to get the undercut and get ahead of Dan again.
